Well it is not surprising news today but why the share price held up is beyond comprehension.

They say they have cash but why no mention of how much?

Once they have cut back and we get the figures in August, I can see this back down to 50p

It will be a long time before this recovers imo.

Sad about Johnny Coca leaving however it will leave the way open for more designs aimed at Sports Direct customers.

Not before time, and it is now so undervalued as a luxury brand.

In answer to the question in the header it would appear to be Mike Ashley.

Surprisingly the share price is slowly ticking up. I wonder if insiders are getting some positive sales knowledge as seasonal sales start to come in.
Maybe worth watching the website to see if they start to be unable to fill orders quickly.

Is the strategy correct?

The concern for me is the Operating expense here. As a percentage of sales OpEx is about 70% at the half year. Compare that with Burberry where the OpEx is about 50% of sales. For Mul OpEx may fall to the low 60s for full year. I understand why OpEx is going up with expansion of the number of stores in Asia e.t.c. There seems to be no urgency on making a profit. With the rise in Online sales do they need all these stores? Is there nothing in the 100 million plus annual OpEx which could be trimmed?
The strategy relies on a substantial increase in sales for the company to make a profit. What if tha sales rise doesn't come soon? Whats happened to the Ongs business sense?

With the rise in Online sales do you need the full traditional OpEx for a luxury brand?

Cash position getting a bit tight, any more bumps in the road and I can see the share price going backwards towards £1.00 again.

To many shops at the wrong time in the cycle.

They seem to be issuing stock to key suppliers (friends I guess) that are unlikely to support this being taken over.Nice getting handed £90k+ for what exactly?

With the pound so low this could be taken private by the Ongs or snapped up by Burberry, Louis Vuitton or another overseas buyer.

Although volumes are low, it is taking very little to advance the sp, so a positive RNS could see it jump I expect.

DYOR.

You could never duplicate the value of the brand for that plus the factories etc.

Slow and steady upwards.

Item about MUL in the Tempus column of The Times today.
Conclusion was avoid. No near term catalyst for a re-rate.

The market cap of MUL is 160 million pounds. If you started from scratch could you duplicate MUL for that amount? Two factories in somerset e.t.c.

A better than expected statememt that should soon see the share price reflect the better news imo.

Good to hear about the progress with John Lewis as well. along with the news about the new CFO, after the mistakes made re: HoF.

clocktower why would the Ongs sell the business?

There stated goal is to develop it into a bigger luxury brand. You can argue as hereford29 does above that they are being too ambitious in this goal. More profitable to keep it as niche British brand still desirable in Asia.

Is it cheap at the current price? Can they get back to the level of profit they had in 2014? Can they make sure that Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton never leave the house without a Mulberry bag?
