I'd love Baugur to withdraw their offer and see the share price collapse(apologies to any holders reading this)then there would be a fantastic opportunity to pick up a bargain. In fact that's what Baugur should do, then make an offer at a lower level-investors would have nagging feeling that they should accept otherwise they might withdraw and the share price will sink further.Any there any restrictions on indicative offers? Surely there must be as it diverts management's time and money from running the business. I believe that if a Company makes a bid for another listed Company, and six months expires then they are unable to make a further bid for six months.

What's the time scale for the indicative offer?

Lol, looks like the Debenhams rumour has generated a lot more excitement than the results did. But whatever, it's a nice little move from a technical perspective, means the sharper downtrend is over and a good chance of a run-up back to key resistance at 60p.

Not exactly a massive reaction to the results. But then they contained few surprises.

Considering that the Moss family is supposed to have rejected an 80p-ish bid not much more than a year ago I can't see what the point of Baugur putting in a bid of 42p is - apart from the huge loss relative to what they would have had a year ago it would make the family look like complete idiots if they so completely misunderstood the value of their own business. Very surprised Baugur were even allowed to look at the books. I'm sure the Mosses will hold out for much more, and rightly so IMO - the finances of the company are fundamentally sound and retailing is a cyclical business, so unless they are personally in need of a lot of cash in the short term they will surely wait until the next economic upturn brings (hopefully) a bounce in the business performance and share price.

What's Baugar track record in this type of situation? I'm told that most of the time their bid talks amount to nothing

Are Baugar going to bid? What's the consensus?. I'm hoping and praying that they won't so the Moss Bros share price can take a Bath.Ideally would like to buy in the low twenties. Sentiment is and has been poor for Retailers for quite a while now. If Baugar withdraw then I think the share price will dive since at current levels there is a "bid premium"ie the share price would definitely be lower probably around 30p without an interested Party.

BAUGAR IS MANUPLATING THE share price AND DOING INSIDER DEALING, THEY WILL NOT BUY ANYTHING. JUST MAKE PROFIT AND HOLD AND TRADE THE MARKET BOTH WAYS, THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL, THEY HAVE 2 SEATS ON THE BOARD AS WELL.

Well, they got their bounce. A lot of resistance in the upper 40s though so I don't think it will make much further progress unless we get concrete news.

Takeover bid story - but with the price supposed to be only "in the 40s per share", i.e. where they were last month, I hope this would get fairly short shrift from the major shareholders. I can't see them selling for below 60p.

However, reading between the lines I'm not too sure how serious this is. It may be partly an attempt by Baugur to talk up the value of the shares, as they are currently sitting on a big loss here.

Take a look at this

"Moss Bros - Issues a profit warning before key Christmas period
05-Dec-2007
Typically the first two weeks of the New Year are the most nerve racking for stakeholders in high street retailers...this year however, investors are being caught out by worrying trading updates beforehand!"

Rainmaker,

Good call on this one.

I bought heavily into TIP, couldn't believe my luck. Always thought it was a low take out price. I think the spending boom started the next day. I wonder how much it would have been worth last summer?

The cash and freeholds must be worth something here. Is there any price you would buy in at?

Re Post 252-message copied"so, if i have a company worth 100m in tangy assets and earning 1million per year, i am not going to sell it for 10million am i

that would only apply if they were intangy assets and not tangy ones

That's the great thing about the London Stock Exchange is that you can buy parts of a business for a price that would never be accepted by Bosses, Accountants,Liquidators in the private market. It's an important point that generally the people selling are not normally the Directors but Shareholders.

In "Mr Market"Ben Graham tells the story of two Partners in a Business.Everyday One Partner will quote the other a price for his share of the business. Sometimes he is in a good mood and wildly optimistic he will give a very high price and yet, other days he will be in a bad mood and pessimistic quoting a very low value. The Stock Market is like that, with shares prices rising and falling on waves of emotions of fear and greed and the Investor is free to take advantage.

Sorry to be a wet Blanket but expect the share price to hit 40p if it fails to hold current levels. Don't think the credit crunch and it's effect on consumer spending has been fully factored into the Moss Bros share price. Already Barclaycard(as I understand the largest Credit Card Company) are refusing half of all new Credit Card applications as well as reducing the credit limit of Customers who exceed credit limits. This is going to affect spending on larger ticket items such as Suits on which Moss Bros are heavily reliant.I'm not saying that Moss Bros isn't cheap at current levels and on a three view you won't make money, only on a short term basis of 6 months/one year they are heading south

PP-It's not unknown for Companies to trade at such low levels whereby their Market Capitalisation is the same as their Net Cash,Time Products was one that springs to mind or less such as Adam & Harvey Group where you could buy the Company's net cash at an equivalent rate of 50p in the Pound and get the Fixed assets and stocks for nothing!

cash alone is 33% of mkt cap, assets circa 76 million

property plant and equipment is approx. 24 million, so would interesting to actually know and see this to confirm

anyway, must be missing something here or is the market, including manipulation

anyway, missing something

good luck

Fear and greed with make Investors do some incredibly foolish things. You and I may be calm and rational headed but there are others who will panic given the right conditions
