So did I, it does not make sense to me - perhaps the market is beginning to
question this?.

At the same time would a UKX company make a statement about returning cash to
holders without having a good handle on whether this is possible/likely to happen.

I've been wondering the same. I actually thought their only option would be to walk away from the business, whereupon it would become the property of some oligarch or other.

How do Mondi get the cash from the disposal out of Russia?,
I understood that was not possible atm - might be missing something on this ?.

Hmmm, I assume the ( ?255 million ) they are talking about is Euros to be distributed then with 367.24 million shares in issue
gives a dividend per share of 69.43 €urocents = 58.69 pence.

Subject to the approval of the Russian Federation? That doesn't sound good in the current climate. Why are they divesting?
Paying out the proceedings as dividends means that the lost business won't be reinvested elsewhere...
