Small-cap movers: Mirriad catapulted on major Microsoft partnership07:21 Sat 06 May 2023William FarringtonViewBushveld Minerals LimitedAIM:BMNOTC:BSHVFladders on blue background reaching to dart boardHere's a look at all the movers and shakers on the AIM market this weekSmall caps are often prone to dramatic price fluctuations. Such is the nature of securities on the lower end of the value spectrum. But rarely do we see a surge in value the likes of which AIM-listed Mirriad Advertising PLC (AIM:MIRI, OTCQX:MMDDF) enjoyed this week. The advertising technology group more than tripled its market capitalisation by the time Friday rolled around (and in fact briefly surged as much as 500% on Thursday), and for good reason.Announced on Wednesday, Mirriad has been chosen to collaborate with none other than Microsoft to build a new application programming interface (API) for integrating the Microsoft Azure cloud-computing platform and its AI capabilities for various client-driven use cases.Mirriad's patented SceneFinder technology is a touch of genius.Using digital post-production techniques, Mirriad enables companies to insert product placements into existing visual content, all optimised to reach the widest set of eyeballs possible.Say you want your sauce brand digitally placed on the kitchen table of a morning cooking show, or your telecoms company's billboard inserted into the background of a televised football match. SceneFinder makes this possible.Mirriad's partnership with Microsoft intends to scale and expand these possibilities. Chief executive Stephan Beringer said that "partnering with Microsoft is an important milestone for the further development of our in-content advertising platform, proposition and business".He added: "The wide-ranging agreement with Microsoft can unlock significant benefits and opportunities for both parties as we continue to develop our technical capabilities and scale the creation and delivery of contextually relevant ad experiences in content."Judging by the way shares skyrocketed, investors seem to agree.

I am not suggesting anyone buy, sell or hold. I am merely saying it is clear they will run out of cash in a few months but the large II base will not let it go to the wall. Who knows how they will raise cash but they are the leader in this new space and it will clearly grow so assuming mirriad survives it will be well placed to grow. The infrastructure is in place to accelerate growth/scale up and my understanding is scale up will not need a significant increase in variable costs. They could dilute existing holders to oblivion which is a clear risk. The protected IP etc has a value and clearly they have been published for slow progress in sales so some are seeing value at current market cap. They are hiring and signing deals which says they think they will be operating beyond this year.

You really need to have a dose of reality here

In Aug 2021 they had £28.7 mil cash after raising £20 mil as they were rapidly running out of cash.

June 22nd 2022 they had £17.7 mil, so under a year they had burned £10 mil of cash so it's around £1 mil a month they burn.

It's 10 months on so unless they have stemmed the flow of cash they will be down to around £7-8 mil, normally a large some of cash but not in a company that burns it for fun.

Seriously anybody fortunate to have made a killing this would be nuts to a not least sell a good % while the going is so good.

Vendors who offer the cash will never touch this at a premium, they will want a level that gives them safety of offloading for a profit so it's risky thinking any fundraising will be done at a strong price or even a premium.

If Mirriad was in dire trouble surely they would not still be employing and surely senior people would not jump on board.Mirriad, the leading in-content advertising company powered by Academy Award-winning AI technology is announcing the appointment of Danny Ratcliff as Vice President of Operations based out of the company's New York office.Ratcliff joins Mirriad from his time consulting for Amazon, where as a Producer, he led the company's Virtual Product Placement team. Sorry Apple, Microsoft is the cool kid againIs it time for another round of ad wars in Silicon Valley?Apple Inc's (NASDAQ:AAPL) financial engineering with its eye-watering share buy-back programme, now extended by a further US$90bn, reveals a tech giant that's running out of ideas, meanwhile, across Silicon Valley its oft-derided old foe Microsoft showed its ambitions at the bleeding edge of big tech. The Windows firm is closing in on a significant new partnership with AMD, according to a report by Bloomberg, investing in the chip-maker's Athena project which seeks to deliver a new generation of processors designed to power the much-hyped AI revolution. It comes just months after Microsoft deftly moved to become the cornerstone investor in ChatGPT developer OpenAI, pouring US$10bn into the bot maker's coffers.

You are probably right re traders all over this.Institutions have nearly 2/3rds here so will want to see it fulfil its potential. I would not be surprised to see a raise at a slight premium. The crook David Richards managed it many times at WAND. Almost creating a new advertising space takes time as it does to get decent orders and into budgets. This space will grow and real acceleration will start next year but the heavy lifting has been done so can now scale up. The Kantor research illustrates how valuable this will be and that won't be lost on brands and marketing teams.

Have a look at KMK that issued 2 bits of news and spiked to over 8p and then bang the 5p placing for £8 mil.

Vendors will not give big money for big placings unless the price is right. If Miri want to get another £10 million in the coffers to help them in 2024 I doubt they will get a reasonable price.

Lets be realistic 99% of the people pushing this are trading it and will not holding this time next week.

I agree the large rise just on the back of the recent collaboration well OTT. That said this is a new space which will disrupt a very well established industry. VPP is here to stay and has only begun and sales will accelerate as it becomes part of brands' marketing mix. Yes they are burning £1m/month and have cash until Sept but surely with the recent deals and very large II holding they will get finance sorted. They are the leaders in this new space and have IP, have spent a lot on getting the infrastructure in place to enable them to scale up and they have a huge number of supply and demand side partners from Disney, Channel 4 to Pepsi, Deliveroo and of course there's the music side. They last raised money at 40p and clearly it's taken longer to generate the sales they expected but they left China and are concentrating on the US and Europe. If finance gets sorted this will shoot up and surely that's likely.

Seems nobody pushing Miri wants to talk about reality though.

Last interim results 500k of turnover £8.5 mil of losses.

Anybody with a ounce of common sense would not touch this stock with a bargepole.

A heavily loss making cash burning and running low on cash stock doing 400% on a collaboration even if it is Microsoft.

I'm just bringing some balance here but this is almost back to the dot com boom days.

The reason this has done this rise is the market seems to be returning to a quick buck traders frenzy that happened in 2020 after the covid slump.

People are piling in anything that is up 20% and most people are losing fortunes.

People piles into Trac Friday when almost 100% up, then when it dropped to just 20% up some of them sold, one person took a £6000 loss and I'm sure it will happen here.

Lots of value out there, stocks with way better fundamentals at all time lows.

SMRT is a quiet tech stock valued the same as Miri and it's doing a lot better

List is endless really but Miri is not cheap or value
