02/1/2007 10:40 | Investors Chronicle 24 November: Marchpole, THE designer and licenser of eight fashion brands, reported a steep rise in both sales and profitability. This was driven, in part, by a good final season from Yves Saint Laurent, which will no longer sell popular retail lines (known in industry jargon as 'diffusion collections'). But the company also benefited from the acquisition of 51 per cent of luxury brand Homebody in August 2006. In addition, Marchpole's relationship with the House of Ungaro was strengthened, and this resulted in increased turnover. Executive deputy chairman Michael Morris also points out that Marchpole benefited from reducing overheads in the US, UK, France and Italy. As a result, the gross margin improved by a stunning 17 percentage points in the US - reflecting improved sourcing for brand Moda America. House broker Shore Capital therefore forecasts full-year, adjusted pre-tax profits of GBP8.1m (from GBP4m in 2006), giving adjusted EPS of 19.97p (9.95p), falling to GBP6.5m and 16.06p, respectively, in 2008. Marchpole is making positive steps towards replacing its sizeable Yves Saint Laurent business. So, trading on just 7 times 2008's forecast adjusted earnings, the shares rate good value. | momentos

22/12/2006 09:35 | Morning to all long term patient holders and do we ever need patience with this investment, but I feel assured that all that can be done is being done to increase shareholder value. I called into John Lewis yesterday and both Ungaro suits and shirts are there alongside the YSL offerings, both very similar in design and quality, both hopefully selling like hot cakes. Nothing else to say that has not been covered many times before, main point being the company is performing very well with margins and profits moving in the right direction. Have a great Christmas and talk again in the New year................ | wbjunior
21/12/2006 19:20 | Sentiment will change here, one day, it may be days, weeks, months or a year, but when she goes there'll be no catching her imo.....always intend to hold a resonable amount in my ISA bottom draw, just witing for that time. | deanroberthunt
21/12/2006 18:38 | Whichever way, I certainly dont think the spat with OB is worth 40p discount to Hardmans conservative valuation of 138-158p. I can't really argue with their valuation which seems very sensibly reached and, unlike other tipsters etc, they seem to know their facts about the company correctly. As ever sentiment is way overplayed on Marchpole, which is why traders love it. The slightest issue and it moves on either direction by a disproportionate amount. Reading the latest court report it seem the latest legal action is necessary rather than vexatious, although a bit of discussion or arbitration would not go amiss. But with the egos involved and the hand-rubbing lawyers there's not much chance of that... | momentos |
