SS - I didn't say it was a 40% tax on dividends. What I said was your example indicates that the additional tax rises you claim are looming on the horizon equate to 40% of the value of the dividend currently being paid. And, remember, these are your figures not mine.

I also note, in your latest post, that you've now brought nationalisation into the negative mix! What's next?

why on earth is that a 40 per cent Tax on dividends being paid ?
I was being hypothetical .
All I am saying as companies start incurring more Tax Take from the Authorities .
Its only the Lefties who think the companies are going to pay it .
Any additional Tax incurred will be recovered through cuts in employment , benefits and reduced dividends .
Its not a Tax on dividends is it . Its a Tax on companies , Dividend reduction is one of the potential consequences .
Here is another little investment thought , which would never enter your head .

The Government has re-nationalised the Railways basically.. GBR .
One of the major reasons was the ludicrous Ticket pricing .
How does that effect MRCH ????
someone on here said to me . Whats not to like about SSE ?
As a customer of SSE . There is nothing more ridiculous than electricity pricing .
2 million different Tariffs and if your skint . you have to pay as you go and get the most expensive Rate !..If you have a smart meter you can have a cheaper deal etc etc .
So will SSE get a bit of the same treatment as the Railways in due course ?
Oh you say . Then the Shareholders will be compensated accordingly .

Tell that to those that held Railtrack .

SS -
Here you go. Here’s the relevant content from your post. The example you used was a company paying out 50m in dividends incurring additional taxes of 20m due to Corona virus. Your example equates to an addition 40% tax on the level of dividends being paid. -

“As far as dividends go . For me people are looking at the wrong thing . Ie A companies ability to pay the dividend .
They should be looking at upcoming Taxation and regulation .
If a company pays out say 50 million in dividend , due to Corona they incur an additional 20 million in taxation one way or another .
Does this mean the company will shell out 70 million . 50 Divi plus 20 additional tax. Or they will still shell out 50 million . 20 additional tax and reduce the Divi to 30 ??”

The latest fundsheet is now available on the Merchants Trust website. An encouraging comment from the fund manager, Simon Gergel, is as follows:

" . . . give us confidence, that we can continue to meet Merchants’ objective of providing a high level of income and income growth, together with long term capital growth"

Mister MD
In a normal environment , I would agree
With you . We are a million miles from that !
Interesting results from easyJet
Of course they reported an enormous loss.
But they said that they expected to be running at 15 per cent of their capacity in the third quarter .
Where this big re - opening boom ,?
The bigger problem . Inflation is here , I think it will be on lower sales ?
There is huge unemployment , so people saying it will only be transitory ?
The US for example . If you are giving the unemployed stimulus cheques equal or greater than their wages , when they had a job . This transitory theory isn't going to pan out .
But the major issue which you have all forgotten about .
Last Summer when there were no vaccines,
The average daily global death toll was about 5,000 a day .
This Summer , when you have how many ?..5 or 6 .
The average daily global death toll
Is between 10 and 15,000 a day .
