Meanwhile is literally the dullest person on the planet. Says the same thing every day - it is so boring. Sell up then clear off and bore another board to death with the same repetitive posts over and over and over and over.

The payment of the huge bonuses last year was an act of massive stupidity, common sense being replaced by simple greed. It has done the Company great damage.
Every time, (and today's news is one example), the Company make an announcement involving money, an investment amount, a savings amount through closure, merger etc. the amount will be compared to the £42M bonus per Director or £168M total.

They have made a rod for the Company's back to be beaten with every time money is mentioned, a rod with poison and rusty nails embedded in it. And the Company will not overcome this for some considerable time because the bonuses are so huge, that no amount of new investment or saving at the Company's current scale will make the bonuses look small.

Hi Losos

Sorry not to respond earlier.

Yesterday morning an Openreach van arrived up the road and broadband and landline almost disappeared. Went and talked to him with the response “Not me gov.”

Went out. When we returned us and a number of other houses had lost everything and he had disappeared.

Anyway, will post the fruits of my carpentry labours.

20 pages on Directors Remuneration in the 2018 Annual Report -- the same as for the Divisional coverage. Methinks they protest too much. Their comparable analysis is weak and self serving. But it does highlight the Director pay issues for this now FTSE 100 company.1. Why and how 7.5% of "Value Created " -- why not 2% or 10%. And as important, the metrics used to determine their bonuses are questionable.2. The Annual bonus( effectively full payout for 2018) is based on good old Earnings per Share -- a number that can legitimately be varied to a very major extent by the acceptable tolerance within accounting policies and the myriad of judgements by the finance staff that go into the development of the annual accounts. 3. The eywatering LTIP Bonus is based on point in time Market Share price, indicating value creation. That is not value -- if we all tried to sell at today's price it would collapse. It is also influenceable by external events and the timing and communication of specific corporate events and developments -- at an extreme : Pump and Dump. The Remuneration Committee work in this Report will not make this compensation issue go away for the company.

Top comment on the FT and absolutely right:

"The four executives had collected £42m each in 2017

In Germany, they invest that money in R&D and tooling, in the UK the spivs put it in Cayman

Think we can see the results"

Nothing to do with the EU I'm afraid. Everything to do with UK Victorian crony capitalism.

Hmm.... That's the first time I have ever heard MRO get a mention on the BBC Radio 2 news. It'll run and run...

ryelodge,

what you don't say in your excellent discussion of the bonuses, is that the 232p share price on which they were based was a figure based on hyped-up prospects for further improvement at Nortek. These further improvements, as we know now, never came.

B+ - "Also about investing. It’s a very small part of my life. Garden carpentry going well"

'morning all :-) I still have the last legs of that pneumonia thing, hope I can shake it off this comming week. Piccies of garen carpentry please, I'm thinking of some raised beds, have loads of surplus timber around the place, just need the energy to knock it together.

I try not to let investing become a major factor in life, as you said family and freinds come first. Since Casey passed away we have no dogs, we will soon get another since I can not imagine life without such beautiful creatures.

Good weekend to all, may your respective teams do well and the weather keep fine to enjoy all those meals and drinks haha.

Agree about family coming first. Always have. Also about investing. It’s a very small part of my life. Garden carpentry going well - only the gate arch to complete in this round of work. Might post pictures of my handiwork.

Have a good weekend.

All up in the air at the moment, B+. Family come first every time, then social life/friends, work, football, rugby, garden, investing, travel. Each has their place and priority depending on the situation, and at the present moment the most important aspect is the support I give to my immediate family.

As for the rugby, the Glaws have a battle on Sunday with the Saints, Newcastle look ever more doomed (away to Sarries) and Leicester will be lucky to get anything from the Chiefs. Argyle have a tough game. Charlton are no pushover, but there's unrest in the camp with their manager, Bowyer, being shmoozed by QPR. Could be interesting, but it's likely that I'm not there to watch it.

Have a good weekend.

You're wrong. No explanation required, just think it through.

The 230p target doesn't include special dividends or return of sale proceeds to shareholders, as will surely happen in the next 2-3 years. Out of interest, are you actually a holder of MRO or is your concern purely sardonic (as with Minny the mouse)?
