“The remarkable thing is, the Europeans are setting the most aggressive CO2 rules globally,” says Harald Hendrikse, an analyst at Morgan Stanley. “But the policy of the industrial base hasn’t responded at all.”

Yep! That has been as clear as day light for years.

Viktor Irle, analyst at EV-Volumes, says the German strategy is to produce as many electrified and hybrid plug-in vehicles as are required by law— rather than desired. “It’s ‘compliance hell’ rather than ‘production hell’,” he says. “They don’t want to sell them; they have to sell them.”

LOL!

Dunno why Yertiz ever flogged (if he really did, lol) when he thought they were so brilliant. Love that bit about "Cash is King.." - pity MRO hasn't got any.

I'm with bookmaker on this, as I've said. MRO make money by buying cheap, stripping/improving (depending on your pov). Tough times for flogging bits of GKN, not to mention others that they've been about to flog, mean that they're seen for what they are - a highly indebted outfit with lousy profits and not a very good record for running a company long term.

Not invested, but just interested.

You are such a wit MW - must really pain you to have all your eggs in one basket and see them being smashed daily. How's the love-in with Minerve going? Still slouching in his shadow wringing your hands whilst agreeing with his every word, sycophantic sheep that you are.

Yertiz,
Did I say I had lost confidence, or did I say something else?
Did I say I was nursing big losses or did I buy the shares at 95p?
Did I say my wallet was slimmer or have you seen it for yourself?
Don't make silly assumptions.

I thought you bunch of psychotic creeps had left the site but it seems only some of you have. On here, we are now talking about Melrose, not what we're having for dinner or how much money we and others are making or losing.

Now clear off.

Debt here is the problem, they effectively made a leveraged buyout of GKN, the whole basis of the acquisition were divestments, and for a profit, if the city believes their timeline is under pressure then they will make Melorose sweat!

So you have lost confidence in them too, MW? You must be nursing some big losses and I bet your wallet is much slimmer now.

At £1.50 I'll be back in, buying all the shares I sold at an average of £2. GKN is still a going concern (as is its subsidiaries) along with Nortek and Ergotron. Cash is King in this market.

We may see the board coming in to buy shares. Peckham, for example, could buy 7000 shares by spending 0.02% of his bonus. Miller could buy 8000 shares with this weeks pocket money.
Yes, I think they're out of their depth and the market has lost confidence in a bunch that now look like greedy , glory-seeking pen pushers.

The Melrose Board seem to be doing little to reassure the Market. Are they out of their depth in the big league?

MEANWHILE

I don't know if you noticed but some of the big car manufacturers have come out with profit warnings over the last few months. Issues of diesel sales, NOx emissions, tariffs and new emission regulations all having their affect. I read somewhere, can't remember where, that some analysts believe we have already past peak cars (no of sales). Not convinced about that myself. Needs further research.

I have some money invested in Johnson Matthey. Not a great growth stock, more a diversifier. I follow the car industry because JMAT have about 60% of the world's catalytic converter market. Revenue from cat sales outperforms car sales because of the pricing power JMAT has selling product that is needed to pass regs. Of course electrification isn't hitting LD/HD vehicles yet - less than 2% of sale - and is most likely to stay that way for the forseeable future.

JMAT's CAGR for earnings is predicted to be 12.8% for the next 3-4 years driven by new regulations hitting China and Europe in 2019/2020. I would expect the general vehicle assembly market to be less than that unless GKN have pricing power in the new models of 'drivelines'.

Broker Forecast - Goldman Sachs issues a broker note on Melrose PLC.
Goldman Sachs today reaffirms its buy investment rating on Melrose PLC (LON:MRO) and cut its price target to 320p (from 380p). Story provided by StockMarket Wire.com Broker Forecasts data provided.

It led to feelings of jubilation from some on this board, saying things like "years of bad management at GKN", "wait until MRO get going", "roast beef for dinner tonight", "£3 by Christmas".

Where has it all gone? Goldman Sachs have also been very quiet since on this one.

Minerve,

That would be the only way I think to ride up but bikes are only allowed on the main path very early morning when there are few hikers around.
I doubt we'll ever do it even with an electric bike.
Even the young bikers walk up most of the way, for the thrill of the cycle down.

"They have enough energy in the battery to get up Snowdon twice on a single charge."

That's quite impressive. I guess you cycle alongside the rail track.

Hello Minerve,

Yes, you can get bike tyres filled with a foam rather than air so they don't collapse fully when punctured. Your tyres will be air filled but rigid walled which makes the ride harsher.
I don't blame you for wanting to change.

My wife & I have just bought an electric mountain bike each. We've always done a bit of biking but we can't ride up the mountains these days without one of these machines to help.

Good afternoon MEANWHILE. I hope you have had a good weekend so far. I bought a new car back in June and have been considering swapping out the run-flats for regular pneumatics. The ride is far too harsh for my liking. I was wondering, do bicycles now come with run flats? Just a passing thought.

Success of the liberals from a coalition point of view should be measured in what the conservatives didn't get to do instead of what the liberals got to do. You have to remember that is was also a coalition formed under duress for the good of the nation. Something that seems to be lost on the Tories ATM.

Nick Clegg - a great guy and a very good politician. I am not surprised he has decided to leave for California. I really don't blame him. Good luck Nick! Any chance to leave this bathtub full of morons must be taken.
