"Did you know that Zingo charge you a "running charge" from the minute you place your booking "

This is not true, as the fare starts only when the passenger gets into the taxi.

Your friend was mistaken, or misled you, or should complain to Zingo.

As per iii post

Zingo

Did you know that Zingo charge you a "running charge" from the minute you place your booking ? My friend used the service and he had racked up about £6 worth of cab fare before he was even picked up. On top of this, you then have to pay the £1.60 telephone booking Fee.

I believe for the trial period it is free for Cabbies to use the system but they then have to start paying. The black cab driver that picked up my friend said he would be dropping zingo a.s.a.p.

Declaring an Interest for Biased Viewpoint

I have an interest in an alternative system, see www.safecab.com , which is much more primitive but only charges 50P and it works with minicabs so the fares are cheaper. Especially as there is no "running charge". It works by sending a text message of the Postcode(full or partial) from where you want picking up to tel# 83070. We instantly send you the numbers and names of the nearest firms. We recently ditched our WAP version.

I think zingo has the right idea for the future of taxi bookings but in this day and age of Internet, people have become professional consumers and as such will not be willing to fork out such high prices to pay before one even steps foot into a cab. Spending £3+mill to develop the system was overkill and I think JB you were overcharged considerably. Spending another £4mill to advertise the service makes your investment expense too high to acheive a return on the investment and to compete with lower tech solutions.

Don't take my word for it by all means. Try both systems and tell me what you think ? Don't forget to tell us the difference in what you paid for each of the services as well.

Manganese is a black cab manufacturer and is a little late into the Tech bubble to be spending this kind of money on a tech venture which would require decades of usuage at current charges and traffic to just breakeven. I might be willing to invest in Manganese(haven't researched enough yet)as a manufacturer, but I wouldn't accrue any value to it's Zingo division. The technology is nothing anyone could repeat at a fraction of the cost. Perhaps they realised this in China as well.

Couldnt agree more. They have not yet marketed zingo strongly .
At the moment i believe its
only been fitted in about 750 cabs . They hope to get about 4000. I believe ifproperly sold it will a raging success.

10 out of 10 for the board for telling Jamie where to stick the bid. 80p would have been offensive, particularly given the asset backing. A useful demonstration that the quoted share price is what you pay to buy a few shares, but not the price you have to pay to get the larger shareholders to sell a significant stake at a gross loss to the price they paid.

I am particularly glad that Jamie hasn't managed to nab all the benefits of Zingo, prior to it actually being fully publicised and launched. Lets wait and see what happens with Zingo.

The shares are cheap and if zingo works they'll go well. I dont think Mr Borwick should get this company for 1/2 its NAV. But this market is the most awful I remember . Barclays yields almost twice as much as LIBOR. I think in 2005 we will look back at this and say we were muts but I could be wrong. The results were expected but the interesting thing is the lack of comment . I have noticed a huge fall off on the bulletin boards. Private investors have been loosing and loosing interest.

UKEK - I was being facetious - it is presumably a punter who gave the broker a sell order for 28 more shares than they held and had to buy back the extra!

This is an exciting share and yet has very few subscribers to this board.
The zingo is potentially a huge profit maker and the market for black cabs will turn in my opinion. It does seem to be a very oppurtunistic time to try to take the company private.
