21/12/2007 10:11 | No movement so far today. Nothing in the Herald/Scotsman either, as far as I can see so indeed minimum exposure. I swore (quite a good word to use with Macfarlane) that I would buy no more of these but I am now reconsidering. I need to sit down and take a look at the figure again because I am going to take some convincing As for the babble above, it was totally O/T - I was testing to see whether anybody on this board: a) -was aware of a small outfit called FEI who have planning permission to develop the old Wilson & Garden site in Kilsyth, just up the road. b) -lived in Kilsyth/Kirkintilloc c) -knew who had purchased the Macfarlane Kirkintilloch site. There is probably no connection at all, minuscule likelihood, so I won't mention this again. Promise. | sandlab
21/12/2007 09:34 | I agree. Hopefully when full year results are out the potential will be reflected in share price , I can see 40p coming. | hvs
21/12/2007 09:22 | I think it won't be until the new year before we see some real appreciation in the share price, when the brokers and analysts are back to work. The company should be cash rich, have a manageable pension deficit, pay a ca. 7% dividend and be looking to add on acquisitions from cash flow. If that doesn't stimulate some buying then nothing will!! | jtjh
21/12/2007 09:13 | Hopefully we will see the share price reflect this tremendous progress being made at Mcfarlane. Merry Xmas all. | hvs
21/12/2007 08:02 | sandlab You normally make good sense, but your latest contribution is opaque to say the least!! Perhaps in the light of day you may care to explain? | jtjh
20/12/2007 18:29 | So glad to be proved wrong. I have only just got back to the computer after a long day elsewhere. I am really surprised how positive that statement was. When I read "property" I thought FEI. No, can't be. A bit cryptic that but the juxtaposition of Kilsyth/Kirkintilloc | sandlab
20/12/2007 16:22 | lol !!!!! Never had an "education" see. | hvs
20/12/2007 16:20 | Back to your cryptic illiterate best then hvs? I thought you had decided to make a little more sense recently? | jtjh
20/12/2007 16:15 | lol !!!! Seems like you might have something to LEARN then dont it | hvs
20/12/2007 16:13 | I never understand why people copy and paste news when it is available at the top of the page! You are not the only one hvs! | jtjh
20/12/2007 15:02 | I said there is no problem here, thats why I have been piling in. RNS Number:3993K Macfarlane Group PLC 20 December 2007 Macfarlane Group PLC gives a trading update for 2007 and disposes of surplus property 20 December 2007 Trading update The strong performance of the business in the first six months of 2007 has continued in the second half and Macfarlane Group's results for 2007 from continuing operations will be in line with our expectations for the year and significantly ahead of 2006 profits. Considerably more focus has been brought to the Group's activities in the second half of the year following the announcement of the disposal of the US/Mexican operations at the start of October 2007. The Group is intent on continuing this focus and seeking value-enhancing acquisitions to accelerate growth and financial returns from our key businesses. Disposal of property The Group has concluded an agreement to sell a surplus investment property at Kirkintilloch for a total cash consideration of £2.3 million after attributable expenses. The disposal will produce a realised profit of £0.6 million in the current financial year to 31 December 2007. | hvs
20/12/2007 14:06 | The trading statement is good news in the present investment environment and together with a bonus of £0.6m over and above the nav for the property sale this should make for a strong share price going into the new year. I feel cheerful!!! | jtjh
12/12/2007 16:55 | o.k. and thanks for clearing up the anomaly. | jtjh
12/12/2007 14:58 | jtjh, No agenda, I tried to buy 25k but didnt get any. Then got offered 10K which I did buy. Clean Balance Sheet without an acquisition is no bad thing. If they then made a self financing good acquisition that would not be a bad thing either. All I( was trying to say is that when financing is tight its good to know they are generating good amounts of CASH. | hvs
12/12/2007 12:37 | I don't know what to make of your comments hvs. Just a few weeks back you were advocating a £10m acquisition and now you like the clean balance sheet. Is this a change of mind? On another matter what about your claim to have bought last week on a day when no trades took place? I cannot fathom your agenda!! | jtjh
11/12/2007 09:06 | Hi jtjh, Think they will deliver this time. I also like the fact that they will have a clean Balance Sheet. | hvs
11/12/2007 08:59 | With less than 3 weeks to year end the results must be in line with the guidance given by the company - debt almost down to zero and profits of c. £2m - or they would have produced a statement saying there would be a material difference. That should provide a floor for the present share price, and if we get some guidance towards the £4m expected for 2008 a share price nearer to 50p is not out of the question!! The only trouble is that we long suffering shareholders have been in this position a number of times over the last few years only to be disappointed by the actual outcome!! "Hope springs eternal" comes to mind. | jtjh
10/12/2007 15:44 | Do not think so. Tried to buy 25K @ 28.5p but no deal. Bought 10K today though. | hvs
10/12/2007 15:10 | It looks like the small scale selling has started again. Could this be the prelude to another institutional dump with the concomitant drop in share price? | jtjh
10/12/2007 10:04 | I'm not sure how long the MACF website has shown the analysts covering the company and their telephone numbers, but it must be a fairly new addition. Unfortunately I think they have put the apostrophe in the wrong place i.e. analyst's instead of analysts' - there are more than one!! In the unlikely event someone from the company does read the rubbish written on this board perhaps they could amend the heading! | jtjh
07/12/2007 16:08 | No trades showing on either the Plus or LSE markets at the moment!!! What can be gained going to Glasgow that cannot be found out on the telephone? Edit: There were no trades today so I assume hvs must have been dreaming!!! | jtjh
07/12/2007 14:30 | Very Christmas all, Just bought a few more. I have every confidence here. Soon be off to Glasgow to see for myself. | hvs
03/12/2007 11:59 | jtjh Is that your christmas present to all MACF share holders | l376233
03/12/2007 08:59 | If anyone wants a bit of Christmas cheer then perhaps a slightly more positive view than my usual assessment for MACF would be: Using round numbers - they virtually reduce the debt to zero, they pay £2m in dividends, pay £1.3m into the pension pot and produce a profit of £2m. Debt was £6m at year end and £9m at the interim stage i.e. they borrowed £3m during the first half. The sale of US/Mexico business brought in £4m and, therefore, if debt is virtually zero at year end 2007 it means they have put in £2m of profit to wipe out the debt. Total profit next year could be £4m (2+2) and when the pension contribution ends (2009?) the profit could be £5.3m. Comments please!!! | jtjh
28/11/2007 13:33 | The reason behind the selling of such a large quantity of shares is most likely down to an institution feeling that the promises of "jam tomorrow" are not going to materialise in the near future. It may be an institution that holds less than 3% and has dumped its entire holding - in which case we will never know who it is - or it may be an institution holding more than 3%, in which case we should see an RNS soon. It didn't take much buying to push the price back up after the dip this morning which most likely means the overhang has cleared. | jtjh |
