21/2/2013 01:43 | Mark, According to the latest presentation on Ivanplats website there are 528m shares out, split into A and B classes. That doesn't include any options or warrants that may or may not exist. They're not hugely transparent on this which has been a feature of all the Friedland vehicles that I've looked at. As to EDV or indeed any other gold miner it looks to me that we are in the middle of an extended liquidation phase for these stocks, with no sign of it ending yet. The only gold related investment I would even consider at this point would be the royalty companies. | mattybuoy
20/2/2013 23:13 | Hi Mattybuoy, @ $4.25, IVP's mkt cap. is now $1.5bn. The big question, though is what deals can be done to provide the huge CAPEX necessary to bring these projects to fruition. Just for reference, I'm still rather keen on EDV, amongst Canadian miners. Annual results due shortly. $735m seems pretty cheap to me for a gold miner currently producing 300koz+ of gold (annualised, after recent acquisition), set to expand production considerably in 2013. Already have a fair few but may be topping up soon, with the market selling off gold. Don't expect that to last. Cheers, Mark | marben100
20/2/2013 20:40 | Mattybuoy thanks for the list, think I know a couple of them ;) I'll have a look at the other 3 TSX ones I don't really know again. I'm all for calculated high risk myself, doing alright with it largely. For sure I gave some good winners profit back on the miners and ditched a few duffers hitting stops in my mind, but high risk largely works for me, just remind myself of RRL last year(ouch). Playing with FTE and CEY as my only dual listed LSE picks, recent additions for ISA reasons. Done very well with SMB but out at the minute and cashed PEC just in time on a spike before the sudden crash. For now given up on the Kurd oilers, so a bit cash heavy and looking for inspiration. As for MMT, glad to see you changed your mind on that one. Teasingly close to my first 50 bagger, about there with divi's - so living the dream. | riggerbeautz
20/2/2013 19:41 | This is all I have now:- LSE:AFR - Afren ASX:IXR - IMX Resources TSX:MMT - Mart TSX:PEY - Peyto TSX:TPL - Tethys TSX:SMB - Simba I have decided that conventional oil + Africa is a better bet than the not really very economic North American fracking treadmill. Peyto excepted. | mattybuoy
20/2/2013 19:28 | Hello Mattybuoy, good to see this thread still around, not looked in for ages so pinned it to look through when I noticed your post the other day. Sold all my TSX miners back end of 2011 into early 2012, even GORO which I long cherished; seems by the lack of pretty pictures and your last post you've bailed too. Came for inspiration for any oil plays, sadly nothing tempting me. Also hope this thread comes back to life as a recent comment stated; sadly I think more doom for the miners is likely though. | riggerbeautz
19/2/2013 16:08 | 19, February 2013 LYDIAN INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES GEOLOGY UPDATE | skiboy10
18/2/2013 00:58 | Hi Mark, IVP is not exactly cheap at over $2bn, but that's still a large discount to what it's worth should everything goes to plan. FWIW my one and only mining play these days is IMX, which would have a market cap of around $500m (actually $50m) if Cap'n Bob was running it ;-) | mattybuoy
17/2/2013 20:56 | Hi Mattybuoy, Picked up some IVP (but looks like too soon, @C$4.75!). Not only Kamao (wouldn't invest solely for that - hate DRC) but also stunning PGE/polymetallic deposit at Platreefs, South Africa. Resource update published on 6th Feb: 73Moz indicated + inferred 4PGE (+Cu+Ni) Report on Friedland's presentation at the Indaba: Cheers, Mark | marben100
24/1/2013 00:02 | Why fracking "resource plays" sometimes need to be taken with a pinch of salt. Linc Energy (as mentioned many times previously, and a company which is not afraid of spruiking) has "found" either 100bn or 200bn barrels of "oil equivalent" in the Arckaringa Basin in South Australia. All this is saying is that there is a lot of oil and gas to be in found in source rocks around the globe, which is hardly a new revelation. The question is, how much does it cost to get it out? | mattybuoy
21/1/2013 09:55 | Cap'n Bob update. I've not looked at what Mr Friedland has been doing for yonks. Not really sure what happened with Ivanhoe Mines, it still exists but has been renamed to Turquoise Hill Resources (T.TRQ) and Rio owns most of it. Meanwhile, Ivanplats (T.IVP) has arrived on the market. This is another totally stunning deposit called Kamao in the DRC. How does he find these things? | mattybuoy
14/1/2013 15:30 | LYD CEO and President of Lydian International, Dr. Tim Coughlin says "Another set of impressive results from a successful drill season at Amulsar. Drilling in 2012 has reinforced our view of the overall resource potential at the project and provided us with a few pleasant surprises. Erato appears to be growing in all directions but particularly at depth and towards the Tigranes pit, whilst at Arshak we are stepping consistently southeastwards finding more gold along the ridge top. In light of our better understanding of the gold distribution, we are continuing to optimize mine layout plans, particularly in regards to crushing facilities and heap-leach capacity. 2013 is set to be an exciting year for Lydian with planned resource updates, continued work towards achieving permitting milestones, completing engineering studies and carrying out a significant drill program". | skiboy10
07/1/2013 10:43 | Another nickel sulphides play that has come to my attention. It's in Greenland, early days but the geology looks promising. Not sure about the cash position. North American Nickel (V.NAN) | mattybuoy
27/12/2012 15:59 | Agree that Sandstorm Metals & Energy looks very interesting and have heard Nolan Watson mention several times that he thinks there is more potential for this in the longer term | jimbowen30
27/12/2012 15:45 | Massive volume on IXR for once ... Yes I think both the Sandstorm vehicles will do very well. I just can't bring myself to buy something that's not cheap, especially when everything else is in the bargain bucket. | mattybuoy
27/12/2012 11:00 | Is anyone in Sandstorm Gold? It may not have the upside of some of the juniors but it's one of my core holdings for gold exposure and the streaming model has a lot of growth potential imo. Here is an article that sums up the potential quite well: I also noticed that Nolan Watson (the CEO) spoke at the London Mines and Money conference and presented on the likely growth of streaming as a source of finance for junior mining companies. I think this could have big implications over the next decade. Here is the link: | jimbowen30
26/12/2012 23:24 | IXR up again in OZ 16 -16.5 cents | jonno1
24/12/2012 15:07 | Let's hope so. It's worth reading the recent interview in Paydirt magazine with Neil Meadows. Have a good Christmas everyone :-) | mattybuoy
24/12/2012 09:47 | IXR finally getting some interest in OZ , 10 posts overnight on Hot Copper rather than the usual one, up 2 Cents (17%)to 13.5 cents, and over 1.25 Million traded, biggest volume in 5 years...average 206,000 3m. Maybe 2013 sees this come back to life in a big way? | jonno1
19/12/2012 07:07 | Combo Any further thoughts or updates on Geomega? August presentation on website looks a bit tired. Thanks Sage | sage of suffolk
04/12/2012 18:22 | Hi Mattybuoy, Canacol is an oil tiddler than I hold. They are up 12% today at 32.5c on oil discovery news. This is a bullish post on the STOCKHOUSE TSX:CNE blog: "Carrao Buy by Canacol Energy last Nov. was a Very Smart Buy, management Proves how Smart they are, with the Buyout of Carrao. Already Paid for in 4 months Farmouts to EXXON, and SHELL, plus Pacific Rubiales gave $4,000,000 to run Portofino oil block (heavy oil) Carrao paid for in only 4 months, now Huge Oil Find, 80% to Canacol Energy at Labrador Block LLA 23 Hits$ 1,900 barrels of Oil daily Light Oil which Canacol says it will sell now at $111 per barrel (brent prices) must say Canacol Management is Smart, in 1 week another Great Buyout 50,000,000 reserves P2 says Dec 14 Shona Energy, bought by Smart Canacol Management Team!" ---------------- I also hold LONGREACH OIL & GAS (TSX-V: LOI) Here are 2 of my recent posts on the thread Some very encouraging points from LOI CEO Bryan Benitz. 2013 should see value from assets starting to be unlocked. Longreach Oil & Gas kicks off seismic programme ahead of Morocco drilling ----- This is encouraging news and hopefully they will ensure that the BOD don't rest on their laurels and just collect their salaries and free options. The $30m cash post merger will also enable them to negotiate better deals with larger rivals out their vast diverse acreage. Longreach Oil & Gas lures blue-chip investors | contrarian2investor
