Well I've change my mind & have bought this morning having spoken to a friend of mine who said that they have a lot of customers lined up to buy cars and are expecting June to be extremely busy. He says their phones have been ringing non stop since the government confirmed June 1st.

Car rental companies only consider the cost of holding . The difference between what they pay and what they get back for it in 6 or 12 months. Often this holding cost is what they negotiate directly with the manufacturers

The fraud case has wrongly devastated the SP, the investors who take the risk and purchase prior to the official results announcement will be the one’s who have the success and profit. The markets have over reacted purely because of the dreaded word “FRAUD’

That may be the case but most investors wouldn't touch it with a barge pole until they hear the outcome of the current fraud investigation

I’ve worked for lookers for over 20 years & it’s a great vibe in the company at buying these shares at this level.

And there is also grant money available for small businesses(shops)...approx. £10,000 and upwards which I understand is not payable back...and they still probably trading via phone or delivery service...but yes I get your drift on contractors , sole traders ...they will claim max entitlement available from Govt at the same token probably working earning cash in hand...

I suggest some go and look at the reality out there. Plenty of small businesses taking furlough yet working. There is more building work going on now than ever before. Where do you think all that cash in hand is going to go?

Plenty of small businesses (contractors, sole traders) taking BIL with no interest in paying it off.

The naivety here is palpable.

Isn't the furlough money and Government backed loans 2 different issues...if understood correctly think what the poster 1905 is saying...what if the staff are furloughed but the company has taken government backed loans...

Beeks of Arabia,

I imagine the people receiving 80% of their normal income will be paying their bills form their reduced income.
On what basis are you stating people won't pay their government backed loans back?. A business has to use the loans for genuine business purposes and I am sure before long auditors will have to agree they have been. Do you really think people will take a bounce back loan and use it to buy a car?

Your attitude at this time of great difficulty leaves a lot to be desired.

I won't comment on anything you say in future, regardless of what you say.

I wonder where all that furlough money is going to go. Especially those who are still working / taking government backed loans they never intend to pay back.

Those new cars sat on former airfield tarmac for prolonged period with the sun beaming down and high temperatures...wonder if the rubber door seals start to melt or weaken...

Anyone in the UK live near a former airfield, have a look at the vast numbers of new vehicles sat getting older. Those older models will have to be sold cheap as their value will plummet. People don't need Lookers etc to buy them, thus reducing sales for the retailers.

As I have posted since the lockdown, changing your car/van isn't going to a priority in these uncertain times.

Lookers share price may fly and I will lose, but that's why markets work- differing opinions.

Becks of Arabia, Despite your claimed superior knowledge, I disagree with you.
1) US Bankruptcy doesn't ensure a business will continue.
2) The US Bankruptcy will have a knock on effect as Hertz have many deals with airline and hotel chains. If IHG for example swap Hertz for another supplier, it will have an effect on all the Hertz organisations worldwide.
3) Hertz in the UK aren't renting cars now as they were before lockdown. That will have an effect on their purchases.
4) Business people in the UK that used to rail/fly and then hire are more likely to drive their own cars for some time.

Sub 10p stock shortly in my opinion.

Yes, many people on here not understanding the supply chain or even what US bankruptcy means for a company!Hertz will likely renegoatiate the price they are paying for new cars from the manufacturer.Notwithstanding this, any flood of cars coming through the channels will be bidded far lower buy the premium used market.....cheaper prices means bargains for consumers and dealers keep their profit margins intact.I am long pdg for transparency

Agree it’s certainly not good news to have a flood of cars on the market all at once undercutting the stock dealers already have their margins are under pressure as it is!

Wow, i must be missing something, i didn’t realise that UK Franchised dealers dealt direct with all the Major Rental companies, this must have happened during the Pandemic? 😂

For you people out there who clearly don’t understand the supply chain for Daily Rental companies and Manufacturers, i can confirm that the Rental companies deal direct with the Manufacturers and in the past 36 months the volumes delivered have been reduced dramatically by the manufacturers because all that was happening was that the rental companies were flooding the auction centres at the end of the change cycles with these vehicles and non franchised used car centres were purchasing most of these vehicles and in turn taking customers away from the manufacturers franchised dealers, the manufacturers also increased the hold periods from 3 minimum to 12 months, this also increased the residuals.

All stock from all manufacturers is today built to order and rental deals are all done direct between manufacturer and the rental company. The Manufacturers do not enjoy doing huge deals with Daily Rental Companies.

Time will tell who has called the investment correct in lookers whether you are long or short.. 👀👀💥💥 8176;💰ԁ76;
