14/1/2025 08:53 | Now then there appears to be a dichotomy - in fact lots of em. The Prime Idiot reckons we are going to be the global Artificial Insemination superpower. mmmm. We were close to running out of power last week. Best tell the Super Idiot Ed the Loony to order a few more million wind mills and zillions of pylons. Also gonna be a tad tricky being a super industrial power with super expensive electricity. The more wind mills the more subsidies for us all to enjoy. Best also have a word with the Ashton Slapper. Gonna be difficult assembling a world beating workforce when all the useless tools that sneak past the sifting process are entitled to full workers rights from day 1 and become a permanent part of the world beating workforce - which she will of course give full union rights and allow them full entitlement to work from home on a 3 day week. Ravin will do her bit by ensuring that full taxation is due and any growth will be used to allow her to use as collateral to borrow more money to give to train drivers. Focussed on being an industrial superpower we are. Lets see | scruff1

13/1/2025 13:37 | Lib Dems call for emergency meeting with banks to reassure mortgage holders As the cost of government borrowing continues to go up, with 30-year bond yields at a near-30-year high, the Liberal Democrats are calling on the chancellor to hold an emergency summit with banks to reassure mortgage holders that they won’t see a major spike in their mortgage costs. It comes as experts warn that mortgage rates may rise in the coming weeks, as lenders respond to the turmoil in the bond market. Expectations of interest rate cuts from the Bank of England are also being scaled back, with the pound sliding to a fresh 14-month low against the dollar today. This is because the dollar is powering ahead against most major currencies, including the euro, with recent data underscoring the strength of the US economy. Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesperson, Daisy Cooper, said: The chancellor’s budget has not worked and now many will be worried that they will have to pay the price through spiralling mortgage costs. After years of Conservative economic vandalism including their disastrous mini-budget, it is a price that many cannot afford. An emergency summit with the banks must be convened so that mortgage payers can be reassured that they are not going to be subjected to yet another bout of spiralling costs. Rachel Reeves can no longer sit on her hands as this turmoil threatens to have real consequences for millions of homeowners. | jordaggy

13/1/2025 11:53 | Since they have already closed loads of branches I doubt it will make much of a difference to the number of closures. It's also a bit late if it as attempt to retain customers moving their accounts due to their local branches already having been closed. Like many people I haven't been inside a branch for years, but for elderly people who aren't as comfortable doing everything digitaly (or are unable to) and businesses who still have to deal with cheques the lack of physical branches is an issue. (Note saying that you can pay in cheques using an app isn't viable for businesses for various reasons - including the low limit on the number of cheques that can be proccessed via the app ina month) | ldavis
