ISRAELI SOLDIER KILLED NEAR GAZA IN DARING RAID BY HAMAS

Support SouthFront

An Israeli soldier was killed on June 6 near the southern part of the Gaza Strip in a daring raid that was claimed by the Hamas Movement.

In a brief statement, Hamas’ military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, said that a group of its fighters crossed the separation fence and attacked the headquarters of Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) division operating in the area of Rafah in southern Gaza.

An initial probe by the IDF provided further information on the raid. According to the probe, Hamas fighters took advantage of fog and attempted to infiltrate out of southern Gaza in the early morning. However, they were spotted by surveillance cameras.

Troops of the Desert Reconnaissance Battalion were dispatched to the scene, in Gaza, just across from the Israeli border settlements of Kerem Shalom and Holit, to search for the cell.

Within an hour, the troops came under fire by the cell, around 400 meters from the Israeli border. Moments later, two of the fighters were killed in a drone strike, and a short time after that, a third was killed by tank shelling, the IDF said in the probe.

The cell was armed with assault rifles and RPGs, according to the probe. A possible fourth fighter fled the area, though the IDF was still investigating this.

The IDF was also investigating how Hamas fighters managed to reach the border area in southern Gaza, where they were detected.

Later in the afternoon, the IDF acknowledged that a soldier who served as a tracker in the Gaza Division’s Southern Brigade was killed during a gun battle with cell.

The death of the soldier brought the toll from Israel’s ground operations in Gaza and along its border to 295. More than 1,800 others have been reportedly wounded, so far.

The deadly raid shows that Palestinian fighters are still moving with much freedom in southern Gaza, despite the ongoing Israeli ground operation in Rafah. While the IDF managed to occupy vast parts of the Strip, it has completely failed to degrade the capabilities and the command structure of Hamas and other armed factions there.

In fact, Gaza factions appear to be operating today more effectively than before, waging a well thought out insurgency against the IDF instead of attempting to fight as a traditional force.

Failing to achieve its military objectives, Israel continues to mercilessly bomb Gaza. By June 6, the death toll in the Strip reached 36,654 Palestinians with more than 83,309 others wounded, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. Most of the victims are said to be women and children.

HEZBOLLAH KILLS ISRAELI SOLDIER IN DRONE ATTACK, HITS IRON DOME LAUNCHER WITH
GUIDED MISSILE (VIDEOS)

Support SouthFront

An Israeli reserve soldier was killed and at least ten others were wounded on June 5 when Hezbollah attacked a deployment point of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) near the settlement of Hurfeish in northern Israel.

Hezbollah said that the drone attack was carried out in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in Gaza as well as as a response to recent Israeli strikes on Lebanon, including an one on June 4 in the southern town of Naqoura that left one of its fighters dead.

Eli Bin, director-general of Israel’s Magen David Adom ambulance service, told Channel 12 news a few hours after the attack that 11 people were wounded, including one in critical condition, who later died.

The IDF acknowledged the death of a soldier in the attack on June 6 morning, revealing that he was serving in the Alon Brigade’s 5030th Battalion as a Military Rabbinate coordinator.

No sirens were sounded in Hurfeish, which is located a few kilometers away from the border with Lebanon, during the attack. The IDF said it was investigating why they didn’t work. According to initial military assessments, two drones impacted the deployment point within a few minutes of each other.

Following the attack, the military announced that it had carried out strikes against a series of Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon.

The IDF said that the targets included Hezbollah infrastructure in Naqoura and the town of Matmoura, buildings used by the group in the town of Ayta al-Shaab and an observation post in the town of Khiam. Israeli troops also shelled a number of areas in southern Lebanon with artillery to “remove threats,” the IDF added.

The attack was one of ten carried out by Hezbollah against the IDF on June 5. Early the next day, the group’s Military Media released video footage showing an attack on an Israeli communication vehicle in the Har Addir site from June 3 and another that targeted a launcher of the Iron Dome air defense system in the Ramot Naftali barracks on June 5. Both pieces of equipment were targeted with Iranian-made Almas anti-tank guided missiles.

Since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza last October, Hezbollah and its allies began launching near-daily attacks against the IDF in support of the Hamas Movement and other armed factions in the Strip.

The border clashes have so far resulted in ten civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 15 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 400 people have been killed, including 312 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 80 civilians.
