The European Commission is engaging in the most risible episode of legal sabre-rattling in the political sphere since Emily Thornberry threatened to sue Caroline Flint for claiming she had called another MP’s constituents thick.

That court case has never seen the light of day and while Brussels may end up going a little further with the legal notice served on the United Kingdom by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, it is still an act of laughable pointlessness.

Yet by the start of November we shall know, to use the Noel Edmonds typography, whether we are talking Deal or No Deal. If it is the former then the disputed clauses of the Bill become academic as they are only designed to be triggered in an emergency to protect the status of Northern Ireland in the event of no agreement being reached.

If the latter has come to pass then, frankly, Britain will be past caring what pieces of legal paper are being sent by the Commission to the ECJ, its tame court from whose jurisdiction we will imminently be departing.

Senior EU officials are clear that any EU-UK trade agreement will not be ratified by the European Parliament this December unless the UK drops the offending clauses from the internal market bill that legally overwrite the obligations to implement the protocol on Northern Ireland.

FT Reporter suggesting positive noises from UK officials on Brexit talks

Officials with knowledge of the talks say a landing zone on state aid has been identified but “fishing is the last sticking point. We both have to jump together.”

The mood in Whitehall as “cautiously optimistic” but insiders warn “it’s going to go to the brink.”

Trump is a despicable human. He'd be quite happy to see a US civil war in an attempt to stay in power.

Instead of dealing with the French and Chinese for our Nuclear reactors why not head to South Korea instead.

"South Korean-Built Mini Nuclear Reactors That "Won't Melt Down" Approved For US
Nikkei Asian Review reports this week that "Miniature nuclear reactors that use key components from South Korea's Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction have won first-of-its-kind certification for use in the U.S.

The nuclear plant is scheduled to come online by 2029 under the operation of Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems, with the South Korean-made small reactor modules, or SMRs, considered crucial to the cutting edge infrastructure and updated safety measures.

Each SMR unit is capable of producing 50 megawatts of power, or about 5% that of a conventional reactor. An SMR is considered a safer alternative since it can be cooled in a water tank, cutting out the risk of an accident due to problems with water pumps or the electrical source"

"As a 'faster' and 'cheaper' to install - but purportedly safer - reactor design, it could as Nikkie underscores, be "a promising antidote to the trend away from nuclear power in Western countries."

Faster/Cheaper to install and safer.

Screw the French. And the Chinese cannot be trusted Nuclear side.

Minerve alluded to this yesterday.

In a letter to car bosses, Britain’s chief Brexit negotiator has admitted he has failed to persuade the EU to accept the proposal – and “obviously cannot insist on it”. It means exports now face tariffs unless the majority of their value originates from the UK or EU. Typically, the figure is 'only 44 per cent' for a car assembled in the UK.

Clearly, Japan, South Korea or Turkey parts can not be treated as British.

A big issue for CKD build.

Well if anyone reads this board Alphorn, they can have my reaction lol.

No deal. No extension of implementation period either or other weasel words the lexicologists might try and fool us with...we're used to trickery after Treeza.

We've left. Get more of these trade deals with RoW up and running Boris.

max - in answer to your question yesterday there have been several new terms slipping into the last minute negotiations which are all about deferral of a 31/12 implementation. Testing the water to gauge reaction. As posted before all about selling to the masses.
