20/7/2020 12:59 | M2 - we had one of the recent Mustangs bought new. The suspension ball joints etc lasted about 25k miles. Very lightweight build but then they are not to keep for ever; at least the electronics seemed ok. | ![]() alphorn

20/7/2020 12:44 | Utricky/maxk They are not Frankenstein foods they are just foods delivered via manufacturing we should be attempting to move away from. Whilst I have been in the US I've consumed a lot of this stuff myself but at least I am aware of where it is at and where it should be. We should have learned the lessons during the BSE crisis but it seems we haven't because we seem more than content as consumers to allow back in the slippery slope we were doing well in getting rid of. We will be back to square one in a decade with another crisis to deal with. As far as engineering in the US I have had a US car delivered where the spacing between body panels was woeful. I'm talking US manufacture not US brand. I've also had Briggs & Stratton engines on garden tools that - although well-specified on paper - have given me problems in their early hours of use. I noticed that our UK manufacturer Hayter lawnmowers have started to spec their top end mowers with Honda engines - I wonder if that is to do with quality? Having said that I've had a few US manufactured Husqvarnas that have been of excellent build and up there with Stihl that I have also had. Also, my last US car I purchased was a Mercedes manufactured in Alabama and that was up there with the models I've had from Stuttgart. I think I know to some extent what I am talking about with engineering. I studied general engineering before specialising in electronics and as part of the course have visited my manufacturing plants around Europe. I enjoyed it very much and would return to engineering if I could. | ![]() minerve 2
20/7/2020 12:19 | Min. Im not trying to paint a picture of all things bright and beautiful in Amerika. Far from it. But we dont need to go down that route. | ![]() maxk
20/7/2020 12:17 | The UK wont be a massive market for all these so called Frankenstein foods, the only outlets will be low end grocers & Asian convenience stores. Look at Turkey twizzlers their not available anymore. Times have changed, people are much more aware of what they're eating, | utrickytrees
20/7/2020 11:38 | I saw that film on the Marr programme. The Chinese are an authoritarian regime. We have many personal freedoms in the uk. and we take them for granted. But when I see protesters for Black Lives Matter, Climate change protestors, Me too, Statues removed, property damage I wonder if we are not authoritarian enough. Are you happy with all of these organised protestors Gekko? and how would you handle the Hong Kong protests? There is a big difference between anarchy and peaceful protest. Does anyone remember the miners strikes and Arthur Scargill's flying pickets? Me, recently accused of being a left winger, was on the side of the Government. | ![]() careful
20/7/2020 11:35 | M2 how do you explain the exponential rise in farmers markets and organic vegetables growers. I think your just talking about the philistine peasants you hang around with. | utrickytrees

20/7/2020 11:32 | GtG - what a weak personality you are - you can say whatever you like about someone else but lo and behold if the tables are turned. You really are thick sometimes - land is a very interesting subject that is worth discussing. My better half holds a considerable amount of land. May be one of the few investment opportunities today. | ![]() alphorn
20/7/2020 11:31 | Whenever people talk about trade with America, they plump straight for food. Food will be bought or not bought by people as they will. Chicken with chemicals on it? Dont buy it if it bothers you. American style white goods will go down well tho, excellent stuff...and cheap. | ![]() maxk

20/7/2020 11:20 | I see from my stockbroker site that a Morningstar analyst has given a fair value of 47.21 for Lloyds, based on likely projected future earnings. Just one more indicator, if any were needed, that long-term cash generator and dividend payer Lloyds is currently undervalued at a PBR of 0.4. The price could yet go lower but I suspect not by much, there is more chance of a move to the upside soon IMO. Bargains don't last forever. | ![]() cobourg1 |
