Ps, It was over liquidity that lead to the crash but poor liquidity that caused the depression. The same will happen this time.

Ministers look to nominate Fox for Britain's WTO candidacy while Boris plans construction boost. Meanwhile, the EU holds summit with China as Beijing's new security law threatens Hong Kong's judicial independence.Liam Fox in the running to be next WTO chief: The nomination process for the next head of the World Trade Organisation continues and the Times are reporting that Britain's candidate could be Dr Liam Fox MP. Nominations close next month and Liam Fox is understood to be on the shortlist of candidates being drawn up in Whitehall. Post-Brexit trade will see the UK government, who have retaken their seat at the WTO, take an active interest in fighting back against growing protectionism. Liam Fox, a strong supporter of Britain's aims to champion free trade, would be an ideal candidate. As countries seek to trade their way out of the economic trouble brought about by the coronavirus, the WTO's role in facilitating free trade will become hugely important and Dr Fox, who has good relations in Washington, could help to heal relations between the organisation and the US.Build, build, build: As the UK continues to open up further and get its economy moving, the government is drawing up plans to boost construction by extending planning permission deadlines in order to save hundreds of projects from delays and boost the economy. Ministers are expected to announce the change later today with Boris set to promise to 'build, build, build' in a speech next week. They will also introduce more flexible working hours to make it easier to follow public health guidance. Hospitality to reopen under 'new normal': The Prime Minister will also meet his senior ministers and scientific advisors today to sign off on reopening large parts of the hospitality industry from July 4th. With the two metre rule set to be reduced in favour of 'one metre plus', many more pubs and restaurants will be able to open their doors. The Times is reporting that bars and restaurants will have to take the names and contact details of customers before they are allowed in to make it easier to track and trace infections if a cluster breaks out.EU holds summit with China: The EU is holding talks with China today, with western countries hoping that this will provide an opportunity for Brussels to be more vocal about China's recent crackdown on Hong Kong and its spread of disinformation during the coronavirus pandemic. However, the EU has up to now been very reluctant to criticise Beijing in fear of angering one its largest trading partners. The EU may seek to mend its damaged image at the summit after MEPs grew concerned over the censoring of a report on Chinese disinformation and reluctance to speak out on China's increased aggression in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Judicial independence in Hong Kong under attack from new security law: As details over China's new security law come out, the reality of Beijing's power grab is becoming clear and it's as bad as experts feared. The law would give greater powers to Carrie Lam, Hong Kong's Beijing-friendly chief executive and allow her to appoint judges to hear national security cases. Critics say the law violates Hong Kong's judicial independence and Britain remains opposed to any law that breaches the One country, Two systems arrangement. China claims more territory on border with India: Satellite images have revealed how China has diverted the Galwan river to claim more territory in its border dispute with India. The recent conflicts on the border have resulted in casualties on both sides and tensions are high. China has built roads nearby to make it easier to deploy troops and control the border and has been seen using bulldozers to manipulate the ecosystem to avoid the need for two bridges and make it easier to build permanent infrastructure. On our site today: Today's article comes from director of think tank The Red Cell and executive director of Veterans for Britain, Dr Lee Rotherham. His article looks at the EU's Investigation and Disciplinary Office of the European Commission that is tucked away from sight in order to cover up wrongdoings that risk causing reputational damage. With respect maxidi, not quite. What we should have done is what we would have done in the days we ran the world (and rather well too): made secret approaches to the number two men and offered them the top jobs if they were willing to play ball.

The great bit being that we take these people in, put a roof over their head and pay them weekly benefit! You'd think they'd be a bit more grateful and not plotting ways to kill us! Shame as I'm sure there are some 'refugees' that have lost everything and genuinely grateful to be given a fresh start. No wonder we struggle to trust them.

I was waiting for reactions!

AZ - answer is no. I shall let you research; you may be surprised.

G2 - my implication was that it is not a smart move to disrupt without having some follow through plan. I am sure that the aims in the ME and Libya was just to disrupt.

#308057 Alphorn, your implication seems to be that we should have stood by and left Libya in the hands of a despotic madman. I reject this entirely.

mm2 - 25% of the population are foreign; a landlocked country. The UK is an island - get your act together should be the message. Wrong leaves?

You will not like this reply - but in your heart you know that it is true. Serious question - do you see it getting better?

One for the 'No Dealers'. This appointment could be key to future trade.

Lord Mandelson bids to become next head of the World Trade Organisation saying the system 'needs fixing' as Downing Street lines up Liam Fox as a rival candidate. Plenty of other candidates.
