Wouldn't have thought there will be an ordinary flu Pete, CV 19 is this years seasonal flu (idont know this... I'm probably wrong) I do know ordinary flu is on the decline because were closer to achieving a universal flu vaccine.

UTT: "I'd imagine deaths from flu are pretty uniform across the western world."

Whilst the focus is on deaths from COVID19, presumably deaths from ordinary flu are being kept separately?
Question: if someone has ordinary flu does that mean he or she is immune from COVID19, or could it accelerate their demise that may have happened anyway?

Ctr Italy deaths just topped 4K, unless they can ramp up the numbers markedly, Boris has little chance in justifying the resources hes throwing at this.

"The question is how many flu deaths yearly ...."

Why people comparing the flu with the Coronavirus... ?
let's see...
With flu we don't need to take thesame actions because we have vaccine and flu don't effect all of us.
With Coronavirus is different.. we have no vaccine and guaranty will effect all of us.
If we act thesame way as the flu, no action, 2/3 of the world above the age of 50 will die and 1/3 from 20 to 50 years old.

67m people in the country. Still minuscule amounts at the moment"

We are 7-8 days behind Italy in progression I gather.
US slightly ahead of us, ditto Spain.

"For once, the UK has a collective problem and there should be no doubt about that.
This is why it’s absolutely crucial people take this self isolation seriously and we collectively try to drive the infections down"

Spot on.
It's all about prevent the spreadability (R0) of this virus.

Whether we are in an age bracket that is relatively immune or not, we all know people who are far more susceptible for whom us passing it to them would be a death sentence.

Ctr, what about Italy are you also suggesting they're cooking the numbers are they also lying??"

Nope

So far, the following are telling the truth:

Italy,Spain
SKorea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan

The liars:
China, Iran

What do the latter share in common? Authoritarian secretive governments.

What is happening in italy is tragic, and could have been prevented.

Flu kills the weakest in society those who's lungs and immune systems are fkd it's the final nail in the coffin for the elderly, I'd imagine deaths from flu are pretty uniform across the western world.

The bigger worry has to be for annuity policy holders who hope to retire with a fair payout.
rates look dire and annual incomes pitiful.
we cannot continue to provide benefits to those who chose the job did not suit and still get a pension benefit payout.
i guess some radical changes are to come .
Not paid in not paid out = used to be the rule til dear gordon just brided

One hospital in London is already at full capacity in intensive care,
another is turning patients away as they have no more capacity.
We have a hospital turning patients away who need urgent care, think about that for a second.

By the end of next week it won't just be two hospitals.

Neither is it just older adults:

At least they have got a month-by-month outlook. If hopefully things improve they have a quick way out. I think it is cleverer than many bail-outs.

The UK have planned for a Spanish flu type epidemic & thrown the whole treasury at it but all the numbers suggest itll be a ten bob rocket of a disease. At what point will Boris's ear be bent by the economists rather than the health officials?
