mr.elbee

Soon realised this guy wasn't the brightest button in the box when I came across him at the time of the Royal Mail IPO.

Of course, I was right on that one as well.

"Millions Of Refugees Moving Toward EU" - Erdogan Vows 'Doors' Will Not Be Shut

"Civil war and pestilence is coming to Europe because the political class have not protected their citizens"

He's repeatedly urged NATO, the EU, and Washington to back Turkey's military intervention against the ongoing Syrian-Russian offensive in Idlib. He's also charged Europe with ignoring pleas for assistance in dealing with over 3 million Syrian refugees said to be on Turkish territory.

"Why the hell does he ecpect Europe to aid his conquest of Syria whilst he simultaneously contributes to the fall of Europe into civil war??

Bizarre.

Turkey needs to be booted out of Nato. Perhaps that's what Erdogan wants. Fine.

Deadbeat Dad (Again) doing what is right for the nation

Johnson appeared to pass on a question about reports that his government had chosen not to retain access to the European Union’s pandemic warning system.

The UK’s department of health wanted to retain membership of the Early Warning and Response System (EWRS) as part of the EU-UK future relationship deal – but Johnson’s office said no, the Daily Telegraph had reported.

max - I have not found anything really similar on the net.

Here is a schooner rig - just imagine though it is only one mast.

Talking about Drifters and fishing fleets here is a question for the nautical experts.

I bought a large old painting of a harbour scene, probably 19th century. The key is the fleet of fishing boats - very unusual design that I can not identify.

The boats are single masked schooner rigged. i.e. a large sail plus a second sail directly above on the same mast.
Each boat has two very long poles almost the height of the mast. These no doubt are lowered each side with the nets attached to trawl.

The only idea that I have is that they are North American shrimp fishing boats although I have not found anything to be sure. It is well painted and signed by 'Marcy' or 'Marly' - again no ideas from my research.

At first glance the style is Dutch but I have never heard of these fishing boats in the North Sea or the Mediterranean. Any ideas will be gratefully received.

Unfortunately financial stimulus doesn't kill viruses. Addressing the symptom whilst not fully addressing the cause.

3.6M displaced Syrians in Turkey, Afghans & Iraqis push it upto 4M.
I used to do quite a lot of sailing round the Greek islands and whilst in Kos met a few Turks used to hang around the harbour. They used to swim from Turkey to Kos on a good day with a buoyancy aid it was possible to do it in 3 or 4 hours.

Expert says ‘feed the nation’ plans are already being drawn up by major chains
The Guardian says that the “feed the nation” plans would see supermarkets work with suppliers to scale back the variety of foods and groceries available, concentrating instead on maintaining supplies of staple products.

"Oh dear oh dear. Any sensible person who isnt complacent would already be prepared"

If there are acute food shortages he said he expected the army to be called in “to protect depots, food trucks and stores”.

"Likelihood of such? Depends on spread and quarantines"

Drifters were probably outdated in the 70's as fishing vessels, I suppose loads were broken up for the shilling.

Interesting excerpt of a conversation between Cummings & Johnson discussing leadership options 24/6/16 just after David Cameron's resignation speech.

Cummings:
'He will not run for leader (Gove), my advise for him is that he should support you. I think if you are sensible you should make him chancellor & you should put him in charge of civil service reform, because if your goin to deliver on victory then you are going to have to TEAR UP THE WHITEHALL MACHINE.'
