Careful - "there was a referendum in 2016 where a trick question was asked."

Aw, dear careful, did it trick you? Bless.

there was a referendum in 2016 where a trick question was asked.

Leave or remain in the EU.

Nothing "trick" about it. Simple, binary, question. Simple, binary, answer - Remain or Leave, no qualification required.

Anyone with more than half a brain (and that seems to exclude a lot of the so-called "educated and intelligent" remainers) would answer the question as posed. "Remain" = stay in the EU and accept the consequences. "Leave" = leave the EU - if, in the process we can get a good deal, fine, if not then WTO.

We can never be fully separated from Europe and never will be.

You are also confusing the EU with Europe. They are not the same thing.

Pawsche - At least something comes back.

Do you honestly believe that all these costs (if you would like to call them that) will disappear once the UK leaves the EU? Do you live in fairy land?

And there's me thinking that you're an intelligent guy who understands money, so maybe I do live in fairyland.

I'll offer you a deal. We swap bank details and you set up a standing order to me for £350 per week. I'll set up one to you for £175 per week. I reckon it's a great deal - at least something comes back to you. Better still, I'll add another £50 to cover "administrative expenses". Deal of the Century!

More seriously... The money that is "returned" from the EU is distributed largely through the UK's infrastructure, so as I see it we could supply the same amount of dosh to the same recipients, distributed in the same way and it would cost the UK taxpayer only approx 50% of the present arrangement.

I think BOJO understands the numbers better now.

If he gets his backstop and can get his deal through parliament, (or even if he fails and calls an election) he will win easily.

He will have won back remainers such as myself, who will settle for a soft Brexit, and Brexiteers who wish to leave with a deal.

These are the vast majority.

He will have to let Farage and his National Front type Brexit party go. Farage will get very few seats.

You misunderstand the big picture.
there was a referendum in 2016 where a trick question was asked.

Leave or remain in the EU.
We can never be fully separated from Europe and never will be.
The referendum was impossible to deliver in practice.

A referendum asking the sort of question the Sun Newspaper used to ask would also be pointless

Do you wish to stay in the eu. and have everlasting youth, health, happiness and prosperity?
Or do you wish to leave and have poverty, hardship, illness and misery?

Whatever the margin, it would be undeliverable.

i do not think so,

Cheshire - if someone says to you 'Go and buy a share' do you just do it - perhaps start with 'A'; or do you spend some time studying and choosing the share that best fits your needs?

Brexit will happen. No doubt in my mind. A Brexit with short term 'issues' and perceived longer term benefits or a Brexit with a smoother transition? The fact that nobody has come up with a clear idea tells you one thing - there is no easy solution.

Today IMO the belief is that BoJo will come up with some form of agreement where he will force through an acceptance; hence some recovery in sterling. The 9th September and the 10th October are the upcoming release dates for the next GDP numbers which I believe will be important.

Rarely have I seen such studious naivety as that displayed by Sir Kier Starmer earlier today. What part of the people voted to leave does he not understand. The referendum was not conditional on a deal or no deal, difficult or easy, quick or slow or any other terms. It was LEAVE or REMAIN, we voted LEAVE.... whatever it takes and with no conditions. Suspend the lot of them, prorogue and shut them down Boris.

Nigel Farage offers no-deal Brexit election pact to Boris Johnson

The Brexit Party leader says he is putting pressure on the PM because otherwise the chance of no-deal in October would be "zero".

By Aubrey Allegretti, political reporter

Tuesday 27 August 2019 12:38, UK

Nigel Farage has told Sky News his Brexit Party will stand down candidates against the Conservatives if Boris Johnson calls an election and backs a no-deal divorce with the EU.

He offered the non-aggression pact while warning Boris Johnson would "die politically" if he fails to deliver Brexit on 31 October.

It comes after Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn hosted a meeting of opposition MPs to discuss ways to block no-deal in parliament.

Speaking after the unveiling of a raft of new Brexit Party candidates, Mr Farage told Sky News: "If Boris Johnson does do the right thing and does go for a clean break Brexit, then not only would we applaud that, we would want to support and help that project.

"We want to talk to them and come to an accommodation. We're quite prepared to put country before party."

Mr Farage was asked why the Brexit Party was picking candidates given the government is signed up to no-deal if it cannot get Brussels to renegotiate the divorce deal.

"If I announce today we're closing down the Brexit Party because we trust the Conservative Party, the chance of us leaving on 31 October on a clean break Brexit would be hovering at around about zero," he replied.

Earlier in a speech to campaign activists in central London, Mr Farage claimed the Conservatives had "lost so much trust" the "only way" they could win an election is with his support.

How can anyone waste their time enjoying the sun, watching cricket, studying heavenly creatures on the beach, when they could be online arguing about Brexit?

Do we really want to buy from Middle East and be dependent on them. Very whiffy honestly. Have to sell agenda of climate change. It is politically imperative although scientifically dubious.

Another few months of the PPI jamboree. Latest figures (for June) just published. £340m in total, so about £170m for Lloy. First 6 months average is about £330m in total. Thought claims might tail off, but could go other way with a last minute rush. Bloody Schwarzenegger!

"A total of £340.4m was paid in June 2019 to customers who complained about the way they were sold payment protection insurance (PPI). "
