27/6/2019 08:56 | Bob, as an Englishman living up here in Sunny Scotland can you explain what is going to happen to me if Scotland becomes independant. Do I get automatic joint citezenship or do I have to make a choice between Scotland and the rest of the UK. Also what currency is my state pension likely to be paid in and who is responsible for paying it. I'm worried about that because sate pensions are paid by the current work force and not from big pot of savings, and up here in Scotland it costs significantly more per capita socially than it does in England hence there is a bigger drain on the overall social pot of money by several percentage points- . Bear in mind that if you are allowed in the EU it will be euros as that will definitely be mandatory for new members. It's unlikely to be the Pound other than a transition period and I don't want paying in some random monopoly money. I have many Scottish friends working and living in England who probably have similar questions. The other thing about Scotland's wealth, whether here or in England, I see no real attempt by the powers that be to redistribute real wealth. If you take a look at Aberdeen you can see some spreading of wealth from the oil industry, but if you visit some of the small towns in the Lothians there are some quite impoverished places that see absolutely no benefit from it at all. The money is staying with the industrialists! not to mention over the next 3 decades fossil fuel consumption will dramatically reduce. Don't get me wrong, Scotland is rich in resource, it has great people but I can't help but see the irony in some people up here throwing around the terms "Little Englander" and "Englandshire" when actually their argument for an independant Scotland is at least as small minded as some of my own countrymen's. | 1carus

27/6/2019 08:27 | he EU Viet Nam free trade agreement By JOHNREDWOOD | Published: JUNE 27, 2019 All those who write to me to complain that the UK might sign a Free Trade Agreement with the USA not to their liking might like to concentrate on the Free Trade Agreements we have to accept, entered into by the EU for us. This week the EU has signed a new agreement with Viet Nam. There has been no debate in Parliament about it, and the UK has no right to reject it or to require improvements and amendments. It is a long and complex document. The tariff reductions are asymmetric, with 7 years to get EU tariffs to zero, and more than 10 years to get all Viet Nam tariffs to zero. Both sides pledge themselves to the doctrine of equivalence over sanitary and phytosanitary matters. The provisions on animal welfare are unclear. EU trade with Viet Nam is not large. The EU imports some clothing, telecoms products, computers and shoes. I think these agreements ought to be subject to proper Parliamentary control, with UK negotiators taking the views of public and Parliament into the negotiations. | xxxxxy

27/6/2019 01:21 | Bargainbob, All this posting about how good or how much better Scotland is to England is inciting rhetoric and opinion that Scotland is purely a playground for the English and Americans. Surely as a Union we are better stronger and together as equals. I know many many proud Scots who would rather die than leave the Union and detest the likes of Sturgeon. | utyinv
26/6/2019 23:50 | Better to have 90 per cent fresh water than nowt lol. hernandO2, Ps water already goes to England . Please do a little research . The one thing that irritates me most about people on this board as they say things with no attempt at research . Scotland, in simple terms, is a water-rich nation whereas England is not. Loch Ness, one of Scotland's 27,000 freshwater lochs, contains more water than all rivers and lakes in England and Wales combined. ... This would allow for the transfer of water from Scotland's rich supply to England's water-stressed areas.26 Mar 2019 | bargainbob
26/6/2019 22:57 | From the media.... Hundreds of foreign motorists have been allowed to speed on Britain's roads with impunity because police cannot trace the drivers of vehicles from abroad, a constabulary has admitted. A loophole in European laws has meant that a total of 400 motorists from mainland Europe have escaped prosecution despite their cars being photographed breaking the legal speed limit by enforcement cameras on the M20 in Kent. Damian Green, the local MP, and the RAC Foundation have condemned the inability to prosecute dangerous foreign drivers claiming it sends the wrong message to motorists visiting the UK. Read more: 'UK's busiest speed camera' revealed (Daily Mail) The contraflow on the M20 was imposed for a seven-week period between April and the end of May as part of Brexit contingency plans. Traffic was reduced to two lanes and a 50mph speed imposed on the London-bound carriageway. While more than 900 British drivers were given £100 fines for exceeding the limit, 400 foreign motorists caught by the cameras escaped a fine or prosecution. | diku
26/6/2019 22:55 | The 39 billion agreed exit fee is to pay for the EMA (single marketing authorization for new medicines), administrative redundancies, pensions, compensation for cancellations of long lease buildings, govt contracts, standardization & CE quality/safety control labs, percentage of a massive department of (would you believe) visa and immigration control with state of the art electronic equipment in a brand new head quarter building. First to be hit come 2021, will be the US who have enjoyed non visa unlimited stay! Disentangling one's self from the EU experiment after 46 years does not come cheap and legally committed to stump up! Boris believers think they can get out scot-free! We're on our way out at last, but let us do it with dignity and say "Thanks for the memories"! We'll still trade, but with freedom and not as directed by a club with rules that we're not comfortable with! | gotnorolex
