25/9/2024 15:34 | I am sick and tired of news and articles referring to the state pension as a ‘benefit’ Thank you once again from the bottom of my heart to all the pensioners who voted for labour - the tories for all their many faults would never have treated pensioners with such utter disrespect and disregard - and believe me there is more to come in the autumn statement. | millwallfan

25/9/2024 14:16 | Sir Keir Starmer declared at the Labour party conference this week that any criticism of him and his government was "water off a duck's back".But surely, when a charity dedicated to the care and dignity of the elderly is criticising you, that cannot simply be shrugged off?Despite the Government's desire for it to disappear, the outrage over cuts to winter fuel payments is showing no sign of dying down. Union leaders have on Wednesday again demanded that Rachel Reeves should "U-turn" over the decision, after winning a non-binding vote at the conference in Liverpool. It should be about the fifth wake-up call for the Chancellor over this disastrous policy but, as she and the Prime Minister indicated in their speeches, they are determined to forge ahead.I'd humbly suggest to Sir Keir and his Chancellor that now is the time to listen to criticism and consider that they might actually be wrong.Taking away energy bill support worth up to £300 from 10 million pensioners was the first major action of Sir Keir's new government. It was greeted with dismay back in July, but the more time passes, the more unjustifiable this policy becomes....Daily Telegraph | xxxxxy
25/9/2024 13:00 | Have we got a pecking order for the type of migrant we find acceptable? The EU. freedom of movement rules were such a great opportunity originally in the early days of the EU. It is a bit like owning a timeshare property. I use yours in the South of France you use mine in Switzerland. The advantage of EU. freedom of movement is that the participants were of equal status and background often leaving desirable countries. We had nannies, cleaners and care nurses from the EU.that were bi lingual and educated, top class people workng here, I know of examples. Although not important they were often attractive as well. Making their way here and most welcome, we needed them, they had the work ethic, they would succeed and contribute. . I am not making a Brexit argument here, like Humpty Dumpty the damage is done and cannot be put back together again. The EU has its own problems. | careful

25/9/2024 11:27 | Reform in their quest to snuff out illegals, in actuality assisted them by stealing Conservative votes " So it's all Reforms fault then GNR....nothing to do with Labour axing the Rwanda plan then? Are you a bitter former Tory MP perchance? | utrickytrees
25/9/2024 11:03 | Britain pincered over BREXIT!........ "France and Germany are trying to strong-arm Britain into drastically altering post-Brexit rules for EU workers and students in return for a new migration agreement to cut the number of Channel crossings". But, will lead to migrant pool sharing! Rwanda would've made the treacherous crossings pointless and one up on any hitherto EU plan. Reform in their quest to snuff out illegals, in actuality assisted them by stealing Conservative votes "Cut their noses to spite their faces"! Traffickers win! | gotnorolex
