11/12/2020 20:56 | The Red Wall stiffen its sinews and is ready to embrace a no-deal Brexit 'If we don’t get any more fish, Boris will lose every vote in Grimsby' By Joe Shute, SENIOR FEATURE WRITER 11 December 2020 • 6:55pm Lobster Man Darren Kenyon of Fastline Shellfish, runs two boats out of Grimsby Docks CREDIT: David Rose for the Telegraph A lifetime on Grimsby’s docks has taught fisherman Darren Kenyon that nothing lasts forever. When he first started here 40 years ago at the age of 13, hundreds of trawler crews jostled for space. Now looking out across the water he estimates there are just 10 vessels remaining from what was once one of the finest fishing fleets in the world. And due to EU quotas strangling their trade, these days they are all fishing for shellfish. One year ago today Kenyon – like so many in Grimsby and across the so-called Red Wall – voted for the Conservatives for the first time due to Boris’s promise to ‘Get Brexit Done’. In the final days of the election campaign Mr Johnson came to Grimsby's port, donning a white coat at the fish market and waving around a cod to the cameras. | maxk

11/12/2020 20:45 | Boris won't let us down now stewart64. He made the position clear with UvL the other night at dinner. He can sit back now and do nothing. Expect EU to cobble some trap riddled proposal together but it will be too little too late. As others have said, they should have cut Cameron some slack before the referendum. Fact that they didn't illustrates their supreme arrogance and complacency. | cheshire pete
11/12/2020 20:39 | 31st December is a Thursday, can see LLOY falling until then as the no deal countdown completes. Not bothered in the least, the lower it falls the cheaper the buy in. Have kept some cash handy and waiting...tick, tock. Pundits tipping banks and LLOY as lower risk than some. | cheshire pete
11/12/2020 20:35 | I'd be amazed if we get a 'Deal' now. It's 'No Deal' almost definitely. Hooray! lol. Anyway, whatever happens I think Lloyds is too cheap - in 2 years time we will more than double from here IMHO. | chinahere
11/12/2020 20:34 | Well if Bozza goes for a Deal on Sunday, he's clearly bluffed all along and always intended to cave in at one minute to midnight after extracting maximum concessions. Almost zero actually...if we transgress we will face tariffs on that particular trade sector but continue free on the rest ( EU President today). Guess he might be able to spin that as a victory. | stewart64
11/12/2020 20:32 | "Four Royal Navy patrol ships will be ready from 1 January to help the UK protect its fishing waters in the event of a no-deal Brexit, in a deployment evoking memories of the “cod wars” in the 1970s. The 80-metre-long armed vessels would have the power to halt, inspect and impound all EU fishing boats operating within the UK’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ), which can extend 200 miles from shore. Naval sources said the deployment had been long planned but it comes after Conservative ministers quietly doubled the total fleet of patrol ships from four to eight, partly in case of a crisis caused by a no-deal Brexit. “We have done a lot of work to ensure we are ready for every eventuality,” one insider said." | poikka
11/12/2020 20:23 | Boris is out of his depth. He was banging on about an Australian type deal. Then the troublemaking BBC interviewed a former Australian Prime Minister. He was explaining the limitations of their deal, 'be careful what you wish for'. Boris has since stopped his waffle about Australia. Morgan Stanley has just moved $1bn to German banks in case of no deal. This will be about more than trade. | careful
11/12/2020 20:11 | Dont know about anyone else but my portfolio has held up well today with a few climbers and the fallers not so far as expected. Overall a satisfied day. Now Monday could be another story. If it hits the fan it is nice to know its pointin across the channel as well. Micron is full of it anyway and probably wont notice till his next election attempt. He really is une grand nob. Spot on Chavi. After second glass doesnt matter where it comes from unlike beer such as Timothy Taylor's Landlord. You cant buy keg bitters in supermarkets. They have to be nurtured in specially contrlled conditions in traditional English pubs. As for brie and camembert - alright for hanging wallpaper but not a patch on Stilton. As for gruyere and emmental- you cant get a nail in em let alone a knife. | scruff1
11/12/2020 19:57 | What's been going on...have a day off and 223 posts to catch up on. Something to do with 'no deal' lol. | cheshire pete
11/12/2020 19:34 | careful. I'm having trouble with that last statement. careful11 Dec '20 - 19:30 - 324102 of 324103 0 0 0 Johnson should take the deal on offer. I totally agree with the EU. position on fishing and level playing field. Their demands are reasonable. My hunch is that a deal will be done with some face saving fudge for either side. What are you drinking? | maxk
11/12/2020 19:30 | Stoned So we will not get their nouveau beaujolais again - what a relief - their gamay cheap plonk sold to us as something special - at a special price of course. much prefer the OZ shiraz - same grape - and that should be cheaper Whilst I will miss their brie de meaux - I am more than happy to crucify my arthritis with stilton. | jl5006
