The UK fishing industry also stands to lose heavily if a deal cannot be secured. It would mean restricted access to the EU market for British fishing vessels to sell their catch

Now there you betray the attitude I think of the Remainer psyche. You seem to gloat a little at our losing position in the Cod Wars and show a sneaking admiration for the Icelandics for protecting their resource. Yet you are snearing at our attempt to protect our resource. Could you explain you apparent contradictory stance.I take it you are British of course?

In 2019, there were 5,911 UK registered fishing vessels. There are around 12,000 fishers working on UK registered vessels. This has been stable for the past decade. Almost 80 per cent of the UK fleet is made up of vessels of 10 metres and under in length.

Indeed, scruff - just as it was the end of the world when we didn't join the Euro.

Oh, no, it wasn't, was it?

scruff, what makes you think smartypants ever went to school? To judge from his posts he could easily be 4 years old, with school as something for the future.

So I wasn't very good a school but I think I remember being told that Britain is an island. .....but not a round one????? So if it's not round it must have sides.. four navy boats so Britain had better not have more than 4 sides or them sneaky French might hide around a corner!. What happens if they turn up more than one at a time? And just how much sea is there around the island of Britain...a bit or a little...can you like cover it all in one boat in an hour?....who is going to hunt down the drug smuglers and illegal immigrants boats?....just a thought....

Martin Van Tol12 Dec 2020 7:28AMOne of the things I am most looking forward to, in completing our disentanglement from the EU, is leaving behind their addiction to these ridiculous 'negotiation' psychodramas.I completely agree with your article Matthew, a deal in the summer would have been beneficial to both parties. One now is pretty much an irrelevance!... Daily Telegraph

Will the Cabinet Office stop running Project Fear and calling it a worst case scenario? Our exporters and importers handle non EU trade with tariffs and EU style declarations just fine today so they will quite capable of handling No Deal EU trade when it comes...John Redwood.. Twitter
