Daily Telegraph publishes letter calling on EU talks to be suspendedAugust 25, 2020By Brian MonteithFOLLOWING the not unexpected failure to achieve any meeting of minds at the future relationship negotiations between the UK and EU last week, Brexit-Watch.org drafted and co-ordinated signatories for a letter to the Daily Telegraph calling for the UK Government to suspend talks until the EU recognises the UK's sovereignty.The EU continues to conducts its negotiations as if the UK had not held a referendum, followed by two general elections and a European election that were won by the party pressing for the referendum's outcome of full sovereignty.Michel Barnier and the EU need to waken up to reality, the UK as a whole has decided to leave the EU and become a sovereign nation again. The negotiations need to be held on that basis. The inability to acknowledge this even when it comes to management of the UK's fishing grounds demonstrates its bad faith – and it should not go without comment.The letter appeared today. Letters to newspapers with multiple signatories are usually edited due to lack of space, so the letter and the full list of signatories are published here for avoidance of doubt.Brian Monteith, Managing editor Standing up to the EUDear SirNotwithstanding the entirely reasonable demand of the UK to be sovereign, negotiations for a trade deal with the EU have floundered on this point of principle. In his latest pronunciation, Michel Barnier has refused to continue discussing any aspects of a trade deal until the UK accepts continuity with EU state aid and its fisheries policy. In other words the EU requires the UK to sacrifice its sovereignty in order to get a deal. Faced with such an egregious demand the UK has no sensible course of action other than to announce discussion around fishing has now ended and that all other negotiations are suspended indefinitely.  It is axiomatic that, to get a good deal, the UK must be prepared to leave without one. Moreover, the Prime Minister was elected on a promise of taking back control of our laws, our borders, our cash and our fishing. It is time for him to fulfil his promise by declaring in favour of no-deal. And, given the wholly unreasonable position taken by the EU, he should take the opportunity to terminate the Withdrawal Agreement which holds no benefit, only ills, for the UK.Yours faithfullySignatories in alphabetical order

Last Night at The Proms isn't my cup of tea but I agree with Boris on this one. If virtue signallers and politically correct numpties don't like it then they can go and do one IMO.

Bank stuff from Yahoo Finance...The Co-operative Bank has announced plans to close 18 branches and slash around 350 jobs, becoming the latest major UK firm to confirm mass layoffs during the pandemic.The company blamed the Bank of England's record-low interest rates, falling customer numbers in branches and "prolonged economic uncertainty ahead" for a cost-cutting drive.The bank said it had begun consulting with staff and unions over proposal to cut staff numbers, with cuts expected to mainly hit middle management positions and head office roles. It said staff would be re-deployed where possible.
