Try not to distress yourself, Minerve. Get into your Shackletons High Chair, suck a Werther's Original and think happy thoughts.

Employment in the UK fell by the largest amount in over a decade between April and June, official figures show.

The number of people in work decreased by 220,000 on the quarter, said the Office for National Statistics.

This was the largest quarterly decrease since May to July 2009, the depths of the financial crisis.

The youngest workers, oldest workers and those in manual occupations were the worst hit during the pandemic, the ONS added.

The figures do not include the millions of people who are furloughed, those on zero hours contracts but not getting shifts, or people on temporary unpaid leave from a job as they still count as employed.

Last paragraph tells you all you need to know about the manipulation of UK employment figures.

Now, to be fair, when I said that Brexit had no benefits, I hugely underestimated the comedy gold that it would bring.

I thought this was the Lloyds thread, but if anyone thinks they know better than the PM they should use the following e-mail address to offer their help, boris.johnson.mp@parliament.uk

Someone should point out to Liz Truss that about 70% of Japanese people are lactose intolerant, so there’s a limit how much stilton we can sell them.
And when it comes to negotiating a trade deal with Saudi Arabia, pork pies are not worth championing, even if they do come from Melton Mowbray. - comment on the FT

If they do send out more patrols I hope the government actually contract with companies that do have boats and that they are designed to operate in salt water.

Have read some comments that have mentioned Morningstar. At the risk of stating the obvious, I think there has been some confusion.

There is a left wing newspaper called The Morning Star.
And there is Morningstar, which is a financial research company.

If anyone has recommended bank shares I think it is Morningstar, and not a communist newspaper.
