Have read some comments that have mentioned Morningstar. At the risk of stating the obvious, I think there has been some confusion.

There is a left wing newspaper called The Morning Star.
And there is Morningstar, which is a financial research company.

If anyone has recommended bank shares I think it is Morningstar, and not a communist newspaper.

Thank you Nick for that article. It was written perhaps before the latest ppi court case but other than that it read optimistically. Aside - I note that Soft bank increased profits by 11% for Q1

I guess the real message here is "don't get into financial trouble" because at the moment the banks may not be there for you.The country is currently working without a net.Good Luck

Bank yield increase, for the medium term = sh*t coming

Then they cut because it came

And then up it again for the next income crew

Stronlgy advise, if after income, go into decent yielding etf's (after the pending crud)

No entity reliance there

graham, they never had an appeal to value investors. So they ramped up yield to draw in income investors

Pure scum they are

I failed to spot what a catastrophic investment banks would be.

But looking back, yields have been suspiciously high since long before the 2008 crash.

Banks?

A dying breed in markets since 1999

Not a tough analysis, especially if you checked your sector charts

If you want to be a snob on a poor budget, its really easy

buy the latest or 2nd last model for peanuts, and stick a private plate on it

Most of these cars are far cheaper than a 1.1 litre thats dirt cheap on tax and insurance

Ao its actually fairly easy to present oneself as well off, even if not

A friend of mine bought a Wolseley Hornet for £30. He then had to do some work on it, and on removing the dashboard found a £5 note and a cigarette lighter, making it even better value!

Personally I Must agree with comment that best option is to buy 6-9 month old car with full manufacturers warranty and massive saving. I got my Audi A8 long wheelbase limo direct from main dealer owned by VW/Audi 7k miles 9 months old listed New at £74k for just over £33k. Never had a problem and extended warranty after year 3 only £450.

Well done Spartan Attack for calling it right. Considered doing the same from 36p but thought then it must be at or close to the bottom so left it alone, unfortunately.

Jacko you're bringing back memories now. As a student it was a joy to tinker with. Didn't know what I was doing but managed easy enough with a Haynes manual. Got as far as adjusting the timing using a light bulb and you'd know if it was right after a few miles if the end of the exhaust was a light-ish colour.
Didn't know about the diagonal tyre change though. Liked the way the fuel pump used to tick when the ignition partly switched on then slowing when the carb was ready to fire.
