I don't see how Europe can be any worse than the UK considering European strategy dealing with COVID versus that of the UK unless....

If anything continental Europe is ahead of the curve because they reacted quicker so any resurgence errors will naturally be all their's rather than here because we are playing catch-up. Of course Boris can watch and if he is clever enough capitalise on the mistakes made in Europe. I doubt he will though. Boris would back the wrong football team when betting with his mates watching MOTD. LOL!

What's going on k38, we were told that UK had a worse COVID record than in the EU yet large numbers of new cases occurring?

Maybe Boris and his advisers have done better than they've been given credit for, especially if the over-reporting of 'death with COVID' figures are taken into account.

"The fact you are able to say whatever you wish on social media clearly shows the UK is not a dictatorship...

"we've been in a dictatorship in the UK for a while, thing is , not many people have seen it"

Do you know what a dictatorship is?
Even during the lockdown, people were allowed out for essentials or for exercise.

Countries around the world had strict lockdown, curfews but nothing like that here..
In a curfew, you could be shot... In India if you ventured out during the curfew, you would be shot.. Even then, it is not a dictatorship...

People here have had freedom to move, speak etc.. During conflicts in middle east, people were stuck indoors for weeks/months for fear of being shot or killed..

The fact you are able to say whatever you wish on social media clearly shows the UK is not a dictatorship...
The fact you have full access to the internet clearly shows UK are not in a dictatorship..

Richard Mortimer27 Jul 2020 8:15AMThey have had 4 years to prepare for thisDonald Tidy27 Jul 2020 8:21AM@Richard Mortimer Not true. For 90% of that time those in government told us we were going to get a great deal. Said it was 'a million to one against a deal'.How is business supposed to prepare for a one in a million chance of no deal?John Condon27 Jul 2020 8:40AM@Donald Tidy @Richard MortimerNobody believed that at the time. And certainly nobody believes it now.Brits have consistently underestimated the malign intent of the EU. Simply perusing through Yanis Varoufakis' book "The adults in the room" shows that the EU did not choose the best way to get their money back - they chose the best way to punish Greece even if that choice reduced significantly the speed of repayment and the total amount repaid. We still think the EU will be reasonable - we are wrong. We must be taught a lesson like the Greeks - even if that damages the EU and its citizens.Charles Lee27 Jul 2020 8:47AM@Donald Tidy @Richard Mortimer This assumed that the EU were sane enough to want to preserve their £91 billion annual trade surplus with Britain.Who'd have thought they were more interested in punishing Britain for its outrageous cheek in wanting to leve their clutches?Who'd have thought they didn't care about the economic damsge to their people

M2's post should IMO be extended to cover a basic SWOT or better, a SWOTI analysis.

The media is picking off relative emotional peanuts without getting to grips with the situation. It does not help anybody and certainly does not educate anybody. On here the emotional peanuts go off the scale.

So what are the UK's:
S strengths
W weaknesses
O opportunities
T threats
I issues

Some thoughts over lunch.

G2 - the foreign aid budget is relatively small beer in the total context of things. Not to say that it should not be reviewed but don't get side-tracked and have it on centre stage.

I am with M2 in his post today - better to invest money in your winners - rather than save what are pennies.
