M2's post should IMO be extended to cover a basic SWOT or better, a SWOTI analysis.

The media is picking off relative emotional peanuts without getting to grips with the situation. It does not help anybody and certainly does not educate anybody. On here the emotional peanuts go off the scale.

So what are the UK's:
S strengths
W weaknesses
O opportunities
T threats
I issues

Some thoughts over lunch.

G2 - the foreign aid budget is relatively small beer in the total context of things. Not to say that it should not be reviewed but don't get side-tracked and have it on centre stage.

I am with M2 in his post today - better to invest money in your winners - rather than save what are pennies.

I'm guessing Fresdie is a loser reading all of the drivel above.

Not really I find all these rants amusing.

Background.

Conservative Government. = Stalinst Government now.

Let's not go overboard, old chap!

Boris is delivering a real Brexit, and when he says no deal is better than a bad deal, he means it. He is cracking down on the scandal of foreign aid. He is bringing the overmighty, politicized judiciary to heel.

These things are not nothing.

we've been in a dictatorship in the UK for a while, thing is , not many people have seen it, they have sneaked this in on us slowly, all becoming a bit too obvious now, people are starting to see it, trouble is , it is way too late,

5xy: at the right time gold can be very lucrative. Companies that already have proven gold deposits generally do better than explorers in my experience. Problem is it only happens infrequently, and as Mike Moonshine says typically in times of high inflation.

Don't tell Gordon Brown though lol.

The price of gold hit a new all-time high on Monday morning, extending a recent rally driven by weakness in the dollar.Gold (GC=F) was up 1.3% to $1,928.90 (£1,504.72) per ounce in early trade in London. Overnight, the precious metal had touched $1,931.90 per ounce."Today it is all about gold prices and bulls are celebrating the fact that the gold price has hit an all time high," said Naeem Aslam, chief market analyst at Avatrade.Gold and silver prices have been rallying in recent weeks as the US dollar has weakened.

Mike Moonshine 27 Jul 2020 9:22AMGold was the best performing asset class in the 1970s, and it will be again in the 2020s.Eye watering levels of money printing has consequences, and that is inflation. Gold is one of the few ways to protect yourself.... Never done gold.

That's one generous hand out.

Anyone else pick up on the BBC hysteria this morning over quarantine for travellers returning from Spain? Very quick to criticise the Govt. when they thought lockdown delayed but when they act decisively and quickly faced with worsening case numbers from Spain, they're bleating on behalf of the muppets stupid enough to go there in the first place.
In fairness, they probably believed all the rubbish about COVID being worse here than in EU land. Pandemic politicised by BBC and SKY against the Government and Country......disgraceful.
