Again I agree with you. One measure of inflation will be when the bag weighs more than the crisps inside - if it doesnt already. Hopefully you are correct about corbyn not getting in (though bj not helping the cause). However if he does i cant see a cap being kept on wages and if it is i can see revived union power causing utter chaos. Utter chaos either way with a labourvictory

If Scotland has sense it will leave this rotten to the core government in London.

Good luck Scotland. I might join you if you become independent.

No future in England, not whilst the Little Englander pub brains have a vote.

"SNP in for a shock, Conservatives to take seats where unionists lurk!"

There will be no shock, there's certain wealthy areas such as parts of Edinburgh, Aberdeen and the Borders which ALWAYS vote Conservative. Many Labour voting Unionists have also defected to the Tories since the Blair debacle so really no surprise at all.

That being said, the SNP will still take the majority of seats by quite some way........

@Scruff.

Inflation is, to some extents, already here.

See property prices for example. See hard assets such as paintings/wine etc. Prices sky high. Ditto Stockmarkets - US/Europe All overvalued.

See many products that have "shrunk in size" yet maintained price(or even risen marginally in many cases)

That is inflation right there.

See Utilities/rail fares etc. All rising rapidly, many well above inflation over last 10 years. heck, my travel card soared 30% in one day about 3 years or so ago as the new year started!!!

At the moment inflation is somewhat hidden(outside property prices of course)

At some point inflation will become visible to all and sundry.

A Corbyn victory will mean inflation will be the least of our worries. Fortunately it is highly unlikely.

There wont be wage inflation though as Technology will keep wages compressed as it sees more and more people joining the unemployment heap. This will open up other problems, hence the chatter about Universal Benefit paid to all regardless.

willoicc, they have been talking about what we will do with all our "free time" for decades. People are working longer hours than ever. I will believe that when I see it. I just don't see a 4 day a week a remote possibility to be honest.

My real preference is tariffs and small quotas to reduce the volume of imports of all goods and cars in particular.

Anyway, everything is going to change as the move to electric autonomous vehicles and transport as a service are going to greatly reduce the number of vehicles on the road.

Most cars are used less than 5% so they sit idle 95% of the time.

That is a huge potential reduction in the number of cars needing to be made.

As Alphorn has said above, robotics and artificial intelligence are going to result in huge numbers of people not being needed for traditional jobs. That includes professional jobs.

Corbyn is actually on the right track with his talk of a 4 day week. It will be even less than that.

Lots of us will be better employed as carers of the ageing population.

In part mate. We all know why he did not get his collar felt, he just knew too many people that were at it and it would all come down like a house of cards. It's worth watching, lots of stuff that I certainly was not aware of. There has been claims about certain people but this takes it to another level in terms of information.

Agree with you. Inflation is undoubtedly coming. I do suspect though that with the amount that a corbyn victory would produce whether the lid could be kept on intetest rates. You say rates would barely move to begin with. You are probably right. How long is 'to begin with' and how much is 'barely' move. Whatever happens the prospects scare me. Gold is probably not a bad bet though
