27/5/2019 14:25 | An absolute corker of an article from Boris: The message from these results is clear. If we go on like this, we will be fired: dismissed from the job of running the country. The only way to avert that outcome is to honour the result of the 2016 referendum, and come out of the EU; and that means doing it properly – not with some frail simulacrum of Brexit, but clearly and sensibly, so that we are able to join every other independent country in being able to set our own tariffs and make our own laws. If we fail yet again to discharge that mandate, then I fear we will see a permanent haemorrhage of Conservative support, and loyal voters who have left us to join the Brexit Party (and others) may simply never come back. And though Labour is also suffering a desertion – and deservedly so – the insurgence of the new Brexit party is increasing the risk of political and economic disaster: a government led by Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell. They are not only Marxists, or semi-Marxists, who would massively hike up taxes and spend literally hundreds of billions on ideologically driven plans for renationalisation. They still believe in the tenets of Bolivarian revolutionary socialism – despite the catastrophe in Venezuela. They condone anti-semitism. They apologise for the Kremlin. They cannot be allowed to govern this country – and we can prevent that disaster if, and only if, we can show now that we have listened, and are listening, to the voices of those millions who voted for change. When I was Mayor of London, I was almost fanatical in delivering on my pledges. I don’t just mean banning alcohol on the Tube, or axing bendy buses, or introducing cycle hire. I pledged to defeat knife crime – and we cut the murder rate by 50 per cent, and overall crime levels by about 20 per cent. | grahamite2

27/5/2019 13:30 | I think the very handsome Mr. Raab would make the best PM. He's highly bright and wants Brexit. Steve Bannon on the Trump trade war...Bannon is also very bright. Come on Villa !! | jordaggy

27/5/2019 12:57 | Dear Supporter, The Brexit Party has just made history. We have won the European elections within six weeks of our launch. British politics has never seen anything like it. A massive thank you for your fantastic support and hard work. With our great team of 29 new MEPs – the biggest national party in the European Parliament - The Brexit Party must play a role in future Brexit negotiations. We have the belief and the experience to deliver on behalf of the British people - we won’t let them down. Now, however, there is an even bigger challenge ahead of us. We turn our attention to our first parliamentary by-election, in Peterborough, to be held on Thursday 6 June – just 10 days away. With the momentum from last night, we need to do all we can to send our great local candidate, Mike Greene, to Westminster. Peterborough needs The Brexit Party and The Brexit Party needs you. | grahamite2
27/5/2019 12:53 | Good post RogerRail. Yes, you shouldn't allow PE groups to run important industries like we do. How long will it be before GKN/Melrose disappear altogether from this country too? | minerve 2

27/5/2019 12:33 | cp - she will probably turn up more often than Farage. MEP voting records shows that Mr Farage only turned up to 40.7 per cent of all possible roll-call votes between July 2014 and May 2016. This places him 745th out of 746 MEPs from across the different EU countries on the register. The 746th is Brian Crowley, a MEP in Ireland who has never voted, according to the register. He is paralysed from the waist down. You assume much cp. ;)) | alphorn

27/5/2019 12:33 | "Anne Widdecombe has willingly come out of retirement and faces the prospect of commuting to Brussels to sit in the European Parliament. What an imposition for a retired lady to have to put up with. The remainer Tory MPs should be ashamed of themselves." Why would she have to commute to Brussels? Just don't turn-up like Farage and join him in the bottom three for attendance record. Do nothing and receive £100K (or whatever) in the process. You are supporting Farage who is the epitome of the gravy train elite who you supposedly are meant to despise! Duh! | minerve 2

27/5/2019 12:30 | Farage shouted his simple massage was hoping to get those angry 17.4m voters. They want Brexit at any price, he argued. He got 5.2m, about his limit. And remember, his head banging cult following all vote. I read the results my way. Lib Dems plus Greens is simple. In a general election Farage will not get 20 seats, he is at his peak right now. A good day for remainers, if you know how to interpret the results properly. | careful |
