Richard Bassett"Conventional wisom" of the type that all the City's and Treasury's failed elites could agree on but none of it comes close to even correctly diagnosing the problem."There is no silver bullet for the economy..." Yes there is; but too many vested interests won't pursue it because they think like Kate that the goal of government economic policy is to "...deliver the kinds of output necessary to make public service funding sustainable".Wrong, the goal of government is not to sustain the public sector, it is to create the optimum conditions to make the people of Britain as prosperous as possible; if you don't understand that, you can't see the silver bullet. The first part is to stop doing stupid stuff, stop the disastrous tax increases on employment, stop the new opportunity killing Labour laws, stop enriching the public sector at the expense of private sector workers and most of all, stop net zero, entirely. As noted elsewhere in the DT today, cheap energy is the key to economic success everywhere in the world and the UK has the highest energy costs in the world, what does that tell you about future prospect?" Very slow and very steady rate cuts are necessary to create the right conditions for economic growth." Hogwash. The current spread between inflation and core interest rates is low by historic standards. The cost of consumer credit, by contrast, is as high as it's ever been. Knocking 1 or 1.5% off the bank rate won't change any 29% consumer credit contracts.Economic failure in a country as rich as the UK is a choice, not an inevitability. Over the past 28 years governments and voters have made many bad choices and without a reversal of those the future is dim...Daily Telegraph |
Guardian got the wrong proper noun.'Is nothing safe from Trumpian chaos'.Should be 'Rodders'.I see fat black Dave ie Trigger the road sweeper has opened talks with Caribbean re slavery reparations of trillions. I reckon a 22bn black hole will be a drop in the black ocean of black holes by 2029. Decades to recover imo. They are quite round the twist. They seem to have no grasp of reality let alone economics. As they move closer to banning log burners (an action group like JSO is forming and such groups seem to dictate policy) Del Boy is to use our money to subsidise a log burner power station - but only billions and we must have lots of cash to give to Mauritius and the Caribbean. |

2 bit Poly elevated to Uni status by BB nuts - blair/brown To avoid any possible risk of distressing its students, the University of the West of England has placed more than 200 trigger warnings on the works of Shakespeare. Very kind and inclusive, I’m sure. All the same, I’m puzzled by the one for The Tempest. Because it warns students that the play features “extreme weather”.
I can’t help feeling that students will already have gleaned this fact from the clue in the title. Which makes it the most superfluous trigger warning since the University of Aberdeen informed students that Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel Kidnapped “contains depictions of kidnapping”. |

Dzerzhynsk was one of Ukrainian outposts before Konstantinovka — DPR official
The liberation of Dzerzhinsk poses a threat to the Ukrainian group in the area of Dimitrovka, east of Krasnoarmeysk
DONETSK, February 7. /TASS/. Dzerzhinsk (Ukrainian name - Toretsk) in the DPR was the last key outpost on the way to Ukraine’s large stronghold in Konstantinovka, Igor Kimakovsky, an advisor to the DPR head has told TASS.
"Dzerzhinsk was the enemy's main outpost on the way to Konstantinovka, which is an important logistical hub and one of the largest fortified strongholds in Donbass remaining under Kiev’s control," Kimakovsky said.
The liberation of Dzerzhinsk poses a threat to the Ukrainian group in the area of Dimitrovka (Ukrainian name Mirnograd), east of Krasnoarmeysk (Ukrainian name Pokrovsk).

Russian air defenses become more effective against Storm Shadow, ATACMS — General Staff
Russian General Staff Deputy Chief Colonel General Vasily Trushin said, that "thanks to the work of Russian scientists and engineers, a significant breakthrough in the effectiveness of high-precision means of defeat was achieved"
MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. Russian air defenses have become more effective in combating Western missiles, a senior defense official said.
Russian General Staff Deputy Chief Colonel General Vasily Trushin, who also serves as Russian Military Scientific Committee Chairman, said that "thanks to the work of Russian scientists and engineers, a significant breakthrough in the effectiveness of high-precision means of defeat was achieved, which today, despite the active use of enemy electronic warfare means, is no less than 90%."
"Another striking example was the research that allowed our air defenses to more effectively resist Western missiles like Storm Shadow and ATACMS, as well as to shoot down enemy drones in a wider range of altitudes and speeds," he said in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper. |

Not forgetting our independent judiciary.
Loved it when Boris closed parliament and got the queen to agree. Just because he was fed up with it, not because they had finished business.
It was overturned by the Supreme Court and he had to return like a naugthy schoolboy. The trial was on TV, interesting to see these smart barristers arguing the case sometime going back centuries for constitutional examples.
Look at America. Judges are political appointees, shamelessly biased.
Biden gave his son a Presidential pardon before he left office and `Trump has pardoned all of the jailed Jan 6 rioters. He will pardon himself before he leaves office.
Dictators, Emperors or Kings can get things done. OK when we agree with them. But what if Corbin had such powers?
Careful what you wish for.

We do need the best of Trump. But he has unique powers as President and head of state that any UK Prime minister does not have.
We have a powerful Civil Service, House of Commons, House of Lords and a Head of State, the King above party politics. It is not easy to get things done in this country, good or bad.
There would be civil unrest and protest as there were over Brexit, Iraq war, miners strike, poll tax and many other issues.
This is a much harder country to run, even your pin up boy Nigel would soon find himself swimming in treacle if he tried to get his simple solutions implemented. |
