At these gas prices (up nearly 20% this morning) KIST would make EBITDA of 1.5 billion stg each year and SQZ 3.36 billion stg.

Strong dollar may attract some US interest particularly now that the dollar is stronger than the Euro/at parity today.

Anyone want their trees cutting down for free?

AT 257 euro ttf and £4.90 a therm (Friday close) make daily KIST EBITDA of £3.68m per day.

Completely withdraw the statement that I think KIST will beat SQZ profit this year as they are making a complete fortune as well with 30k boepd. Some oil and a run off on hedging.

KIST market cap is 35% of EBITDA
SQZ market cap is 38% of EBITDA (some drill premium perhaps)

Both shares will be re-rated hugely later this year BUT we all need to watch out for general market risk in October when inflation usually peaks in the US and massive wobbles can occur.

Gazprom to halt Nord Stream gas link for three days for works

Natural gas flows via the key Nord Stream pipeline from Russia to Europe will be halted for three days at the end of the month for maintenance, according to Gazprom.

Gas supply will stop from Augist 31 through September 2 as the single functioning turbine at the Portovaya compressor station needs “a complex of routine maintenance,” said the Russian gas producer.

European benchmark futures rose as much as 9pc after the announcement as traders remain on edge over Russia’s further moves over the controversial link, where flows have already been cut to just 20pc of capacity. Gas prices posted the longest run of weekly gains this year today, intensifying the pain for industries and households, and threatening to push economies into recession.

Could have re-invested the cash and all share not possible because the KIST share price too weak even though EBITDAs were similar. SQZ would have ended up with 75% of the joint company. As I say KIST teeny bit too early.

The bid was seriously flawed for a basic reason - SQZ holders did not want to take cash out of a flying sector. All share proposal would have stood more chance.

SQZ shareholders could not see the undervalue in KIST despite efforts from us to demonstrate that. Still think we will make more pre tax profit than SQZ in 2022. Where will the SQZ be if the drill bit disappoints which I hope does not happen but if it does then KIST will have a stronger hand and stronger share price in any potential marry up. KIST may have been a little too early out of the starting block. If the SQZ drill works then the deal will be off and they will be happy bunnies not saying the deal will be revisited.

So far KIST made cc £200m+ EBITDA sterling in the 6 months to June 2022 followed by cc £69m in July and August is looking like £90m +/- depending on TTF variance around Euro 200.

If only KIST were valued at 1.3 times annual EBITDA (which by the way is a really low multiple reflecting presumably the fact that these are extraordinary times). Have seen transactions with that number at 10.

looks like a 3 year hike on gas prices unless someone can muster a rabbit. Possible rabbits... governments realising big money must be thrown at acceleration of production (still take a long time) or the consumer changes habit significantly, realising they are at war, and go on a war footing. Unlikely both as these energy costs will do the work of the Bank of England without costing the governments high interest costs on their mountains of debt. Market on TTF will damage demand eventually.

Andrew Neil @afneil

Natural gas prices in Europe/US surge again. Europe gas markets jumped 10% to €251/megawatt hour (equiv to $400 a barrel of oil). Prices have doubled even from June’s highs. Gas prices now >10 times normal levels. Expect fierce competition between Europe/Asia for LNG.

Not sure KIST are really in the business of exploration on un-owned assets preferring to buy production and do exploration on "come with" prospects.

PMG exciting with two drilling wells going through. Cost per barrel more than double that of KIST and doing 2750 bopd (4583 MWhrs per day). Nice with TTF at 200. Don't know enough to comment if any good but should get good run on drills whenever they are.

Watch for a collapse in the share price if drill results are bad however and chances are (usually) that they will be. Be smart not greedy in this sector. Try to always always buy low sell higher.
