Bit of a battle going on here. Do shorts have enough traction to drive it down again or is the surge in buying for the good news to come going to win out and force shorts to close?Probably very few week longs left.

i bought more today. Given macro outlook and expected progress the business is materially undervalued IMO

With good news from MT, there has been healthy buying and volume today, anticipating an imminent decent RNS?

nigelpm - thanks - still early days, but pleased to say I've not taken a backward step and feel very fortunate to have responded strongly to the treatment and now feel better, stronger and healthier with each passing week.

Prior to the commencement of the immunotherapy treatment I had already lost over 2 stone, and was deteriorating rapidly, with little to no chance of being above ground by Christmas, and was so ill I was unable to get out of bed for 10 days.

After two of the eight cycles of treatment, I'm now over a stone heavier, back on my pro rower and even had the olympic weightlifting bar and plates back out this week!

The effectiveness of the treatment to date in shrinking the visible tumours and improving my overall health has been astonishing - when I asked my consultant last week how he thought the treatment was going, for a man who chooses his words very carefully to openly say "you should consider yourself a very lucky man, as you're responding exceptionally strongly to immunotherapy", was music to my and my wife's ears!

While its very pleasing to have won the first few rounds - we're both acutely conscious it's still early days and there is another 10 rounds to go against a very formidable opponent.

"All the best" might be the appropriate reply to that one.

Great to see you back MT - hopefully recovering well and kicking the hell out of it.

Oil Market - Bloomberg today: 'Saudi Arabia confirms extension of its unilateral 1m b/d production cut into December.

Crucially, Riyadh says that next month it would review its decision again, opening the door for extending the cut into 2024'

Global Oil Market - Non commercial gross shorts now at levels last seen when global oil stocks were 1 billion barrels higher during Covid:

P45 - thanks. With respect to the short position, would agree with you, on the balance of probabilities(company and sector fundamentals), a short portion is increasingly looking much higher risk than a long position at 31p.

Stock on Loan position - prior to the Montara structural integrity issue in summer 2022, the average JSE short position was around 0.1%. At the time BP and Shell had an average short position of 2-3%, the same as today.

Many AIM oilers with very high borrowings like Tullow and Enquest currently have relatively large short positions(between 6-9%). Following the Montara restart, if the JSE management continue to rebuild market confidence by consistently delivering against the published growth plan to Akatara first gas in H1/2024, it would be reasonable to expect the short portion to fall back to around its former level....and by implication, give the valuation a decent boost through the buying back of up to 20 million shares.

I wonder what the average loan amount is for AIM firm, or even a 250 firm. Is this above average or below?

I have no idea. I am not sophisticated enough for CFDs...

Glad to see that you are contributing again Mount Teide I wish you all the best. To the owners of the 21.36 million shorts I think you are playing with fire.

FB - stock on loan - there's been a small increase according to Euroclear's monthly report issued today - the average short position for October was 3.97%(21.36m), up from 3.71%(19.97m) in September.

The Euroclear Report calculates the average figure for the month.

I think we are seeing some of the shorts closing and I don't blame them. I think it was Croasdale who reported some 17m shares on loan in October 2023. Doesn't mean they were all short however.

I agree - suspect there's a lot going on here and also confident the company will RNS as appropriate.

My last communication with investor relations was useful and they had accepted previous comms with investors was sub-optimal.

There's still the sole remaining potential acquisition as well. PB was talking about four possible and what we have seen so far hasn't been overwhelming.

Must be plenty of news to come, Malaysia, Vietnam, production, offloads. Hopefully a big month with some recovery.

Yes, that's correct. I know it costs to issue an RNS but confidence building is what is needed here.

Valeura Energy - up 513% in a year and 174% since I first mentioned the company here after building a position last December at an average of circa $1.54 - took 50% off the table this week.

At $400m market cap, the shares have performed very strongly after the company made a highly attractively priced acquisition of a mature oil asset in SE Asia during Q4/22 - and are now within 15% of my estimation of fair value in the current challenging market for the sector.

Retained half of the position in expectation of the announcement of a further deal in the region by the management during the next 3-6 months to keep the growth story intact.

IMHO an interim bulletin would be helpful even if to put a stop to the ha'penny a day decline in the share price You may say its not relevant but it always takes a lot longer to go back up than it does to go down. And there are still folk who sell on any news.
