Virus, my ringer. The market has become intolerant of the smoke and mirrors. If the figures are perceived in any way to be ambiguous, lacking in clarity or transparency, or not relatively consistent with Managements sales pitch, the share price will, in the future, be severely punished. It seems the seal pups are getting wiser.

Quite deceptive movement intraday, giving bargain hunters lots of opportunity to buy up cheap shares, imho. My understanding is that revenues and profits are on an upwards course, also reflecting the rise in prices of PGM, as many here attest. But wdik.

Since the latest update until the end of December the basket price has gone up over $400 so January will have been a cracking month.

Anglo’s Cutifani stresses the need for sustainable mining

Despite mining’s contribution to almost every aspect of modern life, the industry is still seen as an industry “that takes more than it gives”, Anglo American CEO Mark Cutifani lamented in an electronic copy of his keynote address at this year’s Investing in Africa Mining Indaba, which is taking place in Cape Town, this week.

He highlighted that the mining industry – which contributes to, besides others, food production, construction materials, transport, clean energy and communication solutions – drives 45% of the world’s economic activity, whether directly or indirectly, while disturbing only a small fraction of the earth’s surface.

“I believe that mining has the opportunity to not only continue positively powering human progress, including through technology, towards a cleaner, greener, more sustainable world, but to do so in a way that is more closely aligned to what society expects of us. That is how we will deliver enduring value – locally and globally,” Cutifani said during his address.

Why am I going to lose money here...Jlp just made $8 million profit in 6 months and that’s with very low chrome price, they will make over $20 million this year and have more than the market cap in assets....but you probably think a market cap is something you wear when you go shopping.

Mantashe eases constraints on mining companies' ability to generate own electricity

Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe has assured mining companies in South Africa they will be able to generate their own energy to counter severe energy constraints.

He also on Monday announced that government would be talking to investors about establishing a generating company outside of Eskom.

.....................

Mantashe said one of the challenges that was putting pressure on Eskom was using diesel as a peak source of energy. He said the intention was to replace diesel use with hydrogen fuel cell technology.

“Together with Anglo Platinum, the department, through our agency Mintek, is working on using hydro-fuel cells as an energy source for the mining trucks. The intention is to replace diesel usage with hydro-fuel cell technology. This is a major and innovative project that will have a significant impact on low carbon emissions.”
