Good afternoon all, I can't report anything atm, just hope you aren't too bored with it all.

I posted on the 11th March that McCall's buyback was nothing more than a vain attempt at window dressing. A special dividend would have cheered shareholders but this woman seems to hate the small shareholders who have stuck with ITV.

From the 11th March 2024 I wrote.

The whole market in ITV shares has been 90% controlled. I told you all that shares were being hoovered up by several entities on behalf of a major player. McCalls ITV buyback is for one reason and it isn't to benefit shareholders, it's a vain attempt to thwart a bid that their advisors have got wind of. The connection between Silchester and John Malone isn't a secret, the 10% held by Malone isn't a secret, the manipulation of this share isn't a secret.

As for the buyback by Morgan Stanley, whose top analyst has been bearish ITV for years is another farce, who and where are they going to pick up millions of shares for that 60p....it's gone, it's not possible.

Stay long, buy if you can BUY at these still low prices. A few thousand here and there and as I said, those pound notes are now 70p and it won't be long before they are 75p.

This needs to break 80p if they want sellers in the market. Just over half a million shares traded at midday.

ITV buyback seems to be stalled!

Seems to still be quite a lot of petrol in the tank here, just a question of when will it run out of steam. Will be a big quarter with the lucrative Euros. Still a solid buy imo.

Slater, Lauders, many thanks for the links, very informative. I would have appreciated a special dividend to ease the pain of holding ITV long term.

Companies do BBs for different reasons

Some are very positive for shareholders some aren't. A buyback is significant in it's context.

There are plenty of articles out there about buybacks, such as this one:

Probably the keys words in it are "Do share buybacks really make shareholders better off? Should they prefer dividends instead?

Opinion is divided on this subject."

This is proved by the "discussion" above. Also key in the article is this text:

"But are buybacks really good for investors?

Not always is the short answer."

Once again showing the differences in the "discussion" above.

The shorters will deduct the cash buyback spend less yield cost from real eps forwards and target lower 😂

To summarise

ITV either thinks its shares are cheap, or so bad they had to buy

I'd go with the latter
