07/5/2024 14:31 | This is interesting - our ex CEO and now President investing ( presumably significantly)in Kubos a microleds company, along with significant others This of note from August 23 Following completion of the funding round in the autumn, Kubos — as a fabless semiconductor company — will open a development office in Wales. This will enable it to continue to benefit from years of collaboration with the South Wales compound semiconductor cluster, specifically the COMPOUND SEMICONDUCTOR CENTRE (CSC, a partnership between Cardiff University and Cardiff-based epiwafer and substrate maker IQE plc) and the Institute of Compound Semiconductors at Cardiff University, where the Kubos LEDs are processed and tested. Now if you look at this years results announcements you will notice IQE in the last year acquired 100% control of the CSC On 22 September 2023, the Group acquired the 50% equity shareholdings of its joint venture partner CSC taking control of the company and increasing its equity ownership to 100%. The acquisition was for total cash consideration of £2,979,000 deferred over a period extending until 1 January 2029 and will enable the Group to exploit technology and commercial relationships developed by CSC to create high-volume manufacturing and sales opportunities, directly align CSC's research and development activities and capabilities with the Group's strategy and take the necessary steps to restructure CSC's business operation and consolidated its activities within the Group. 07/5/2024 12:43 | Global Foundries just said this below, of course what matters to us is their GAN business based in Vermont ( staff of 2000) with big plans, woukd be great if they could give some information about the expansion at Burlington Vermont in the conference call but it’s great that they seem to have a more positive attitude to the inventory situation. Lumentum yesterday also made positive comments in businesses we are involved with. What is 100% sure is that ALL our customers are totally committed to NET ZERO which necessitates compound semiconductors, silicon can’t cut the mustard. "In the first quarter, GF's dedicated teams across the world delivered financial results that exceeded the high end of the guidance ranges we provided in our February earnings release," said Dr. Thomas Caulfield, president and CEO of GF. "As pockets of the semiconductor industry begin to emerge from the inventory correction, our teams are driving foundry innovation and differentiation for our customers across their essential end-markets. We are delighted with the awards from both the U.S. Department of Commerce and New York State to expand our manufacturing capability in the United States, which will complement our unique global capacity offering." Recent Business Highlights As part of the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced $1.5 billion in planned direct funding for GF’s New York and Vermont facilities. The proposed funding will support expansion and technology diversification, enabling secure capacity for automotive, aerospace and defense and other key markets. S | sweenoid

05/5/2024 21:11 | Why little doubt? | alotto
05/5/2024 10:41 | Indeed IQE is kind of betting the house that the extra power needed to drive Ai in mobile will necessitate CS / GaN. In theory there seems little doubt in this, it’s now just about IQEs ability to execute and deliver. Hopefully all Americos work since arriving has been in setting up IQE to do so… | longtallsally
03/5/2024 17:39 | Haha Thanks A0469514 IQE a few days ago said this Whether in outer space or right here on Earth, IQE's next generation semiconductors play a key role in making new discoveries. Our technology helps with overseeing aerospace and security solutions, conducting electronic surveillance, and supporting satellite communications and remote sensing. These applications allow us to connect in challenging environments, see things not visible to the naked eye, and better understand our world and beyond. What’s next on the horizon? And they posted an interesting link The more links you add up and ‘connect&rsquo Think Smartphones 1st - the upgrade cycle has really run its full course hasn’t it - how much better can the top tier smartphones get? The camera, the graphics, the ‘grunt’ what will be the killer application that drives the next generation - well its AI and that’s great for us Now all IQE has to do is seize the moment S | sweenoid
03/5/2024 16:57 | One order that Macom have recently landed is a $55 million one for a satellite building company. It is probably their single biggest order ever.Xylos | a0469514
03/5/2024 16:54 | Going forward with the inventory glut in mobile signposted to end in June (according to several of our customers) IQE will hopefully start to see a normalisation of demand and the growth curve picking up. They are certainly running out of excuses at that point for any poor performance… | longtallsally
03/5/2024 16:45 | Xylos - Fingers crossed. However, it hasn't always followed that "If our customers are doing well, we should do well". Not least, in the past, because of inventory build ups. These may not adversely affect our customers - they simply run down the excess stock. But they've given IQE all manner of problems over the years in terms of earnings visibility. | lord loads of lolly
03/5/2024 16:10 | Macom, quoted on Nasdaq, had their quarterly results last night. They are a big customer for our GAN wafers I believe. Their results met guidance so nothing outstanding there but I read through the transcript of their results presentation and the follow up questions and answers and that was much more impressive. They obviously have to be very cautious about what they say, particularly in the USA, but there were enough hints and pointers to suggest that there may be some very good times ahead. Their shares are up around 4% as I write. If our customers are doing well, we should do well. Xylos | a0469514

02/5/2024 08:43 | Qualcomm Handset sales rose 1% year over year to $6.18 billion, signaling that the smartphone market may be recovering after a few years of post-Covid slumping. Qualcomm called out strong demand for “premium tier” or “AI-powered Reported fiscal second-quarter earnings on Wednesday that surpassed Wall Street expectations, and provided a strong guide for the current quarter. Shares rose about 4% in extended trading. Here’s how it did versus LSEG consensus estimates for the quarter ended March 24: Earnings per share: $2.44 adjusted vs. $2.32 expected Revenue: $9.39 billion adjusted vs. $9.34 billion expected | nickwild
02/5/2024 07:49 | There is certainly currently a disconnect between what Americo predicts and says and the reality of IQE earnings. If it was a “sure thing” this massive extra revenue was coming, the share price would be much higher because investors could be sure the revenue and profits would be coming. However that’s not how this game works, there are no certainties, especially when it comes to IQE… | longtallsally
01/5/2024 22:20 | Just finished listening to the podcast. Very confusing to hear that GaN are such a must have in the modern world, whereas the order book has seen a slowdown due to industry headwinds. Big players should be filling in orders at least to supply their R&D deps to develop new technologies and patent them. I don't think we will ever have washing machines that choose the washing program through AI, that's a ridiculous and unnecessary toy, set to failure from the start. If it is true that datacenters will use 10% of the total electricity production vs 1% currently, why there is no rush for GaN, at least in IQE books? It does not add up. Guidance for the current financial year should be multiples of the revenue posted in recent years, but here we are, discussing whether 3x is achievable (rather than 10x or 100's x!) | alotto
01/5/2024 17:11 | Thanks Snaffly 😉 Super podcast, thanks for the link Rodney Pelzel is a credit to IQE- he presented incredibly well at the Capital Market Day October 22 ( when’s the next one Americo?) and today his explanations were as lucid and eloquent to non- techies like me about a complex subject as possible. Additional fact given Rodney was keen to point out IQE’s positive positions in the US and its long term relationships with Government it’s interesting to know that out ofthe $39BILLION allocated by the US administration to its CHIPS ACT for chip manufacturing in the US $15.8 billion (45%)remains un allocated. Samsung has just been awarded an additional $6.5 billion to bring 2 new US manufacturing sites on line making the total grants available $45.5billion I sincerely hope both Americo and our new VP of ‘government S | sweenoid
01/5/2024 12:35 | Americo on LinkedIn In case you missed it: Tune into SemiWiki's recent podcast featuring our CTO, Rodney Pelzel. 01/5/2024 09:35 | Yep Skyworks was disappointing in terms of inventory channel issues which they predict to last through to next quarter and then improve ( but they said that last quarter). The are doing better with Samsung and Google Android wins but their Chinese smartphone sales are stagnant. Of course IQE are now doing very well with the Chinese smartphone OEM’s many of whom have moved to Taiwanese and Chinese suppliers many of whom are using IQE wafers. I like the way IQE are agnostic regarding supplier’s and technologies. Good news is that Skyworks continue to do well in Wi-Fi 6 and 7 routers ✅ ( with us in them). They like everyone else very positive about effect of AI ✅ ( which IQE keep talking about). One of the main reasons for the Skyworks after hours fall that will be reflected in todays trading was that in the last 1/4 they lost a socket in the current iPhone and they are overly reliant on Apple and I don’t believe that has any effect on us at all as it would have ‘coloured̵ Anyhow any slight disappointment this morning tempered ( for me) by a superb bullish trading update by my only other holding -ALT ✅✅ 😉 Saw the new documentary - drama film on the rise and fall ( collapse) of Blackberry on Paramount+ last night- highly entertaining, you couldn’t make it up! 😂, if you get a chance well worth a watch.
