27/11/2018 22:10 | This morning I asked if anyone could explain the 235 point jump in the Dow futures in 8 minutes, around 7.30 this morning. Here, it seems, is the answer. "Meanwhile, US-China relations were in focus again after Trump renewed his China tariff threats ahead of the G20 meeting at the end of the week, though China's foreign ministry spokesman told reporters that Trump and president Xi Jinping had agreed to reach a "mutually beneficial" arrangement on trade. Reports of Trump and Xi's agreement initially prompted a flurry of buying, pushing US stock futures up around 1% in a matter of minutes. However, the move was erased when it became clear that the comments were referring to a telephone call at the start of the month." Hopefully an agreement, of sorts, will be reached at the G20 this weekend. | bocase
27/11/2018 20:05 | Hannath 23252: >when you get in your car it will start for the right person, or when you approach your front door it will unlock ...etc Use of technology for the home seems to be way behind how we see it adopted with zeal in car m/f. We have sensors for keyless car doors to unlock, self lifting tailgates, but arrive home with arms carrying shopping, try balancing on one leg to find keys in pocket and push door open with foot. Sound familiar - and you are craving visit to smallest room within 2.5 seconds! I have been experimenting recently with smart/wifi sockets. I don't have Alexa, but aware that (also working via wifi) it can work music selection and interface with various software utilising voice recognition. On the smart socket front, in only 2-3 weeks I have seen more products become available and price coming down. Circa £10 per socket now. So, whilst home electronics has been lacking to-date, I reckon the use of wifi and Alexa etc, is the litmus paper to ignite to kick-start the change. In Japan, they have auto toilet seat lifters.. so if we have facial regognition..Alexa says "Hi Dave, allow me to lift the toilet seat for you" ..aaaaaah 2.5 seconds achieved.. "Finished Dave? Seat going back down now, so you don't shouted at". ;-) | dr_smith
27/11/2018 19:06 | I'd accept £1.50 at the moment. | wendybatt1
27/11/2018 17:27 | Well Regas. You got your seven up days on the trot. Can we make it eight? | bocase
27/11/2018 15:16 | Tonsil, complete twaddle, and your evidence is what? I’ve read quite a few articles on the Dutch issue and the UK nutter and nowhere is it anything other than conjecture. Daily Mail kind of stuff. | tomduck
27/11/2018 14:51 | James by gum - your right - better sell quick | boboty
27/11/2018 14:45 | Tonsil are you nursing a short position with your blatant attempt to spread rumour and innuendo about the evil and damaging anti bird 5g monster. I love birds especially roast chicken. | boboty
27/11/2018 14:41 | Remember that it is 90% of the OUTSOURCED VCSEL wafer manufacturing market that IQE has. If more VCSEL manufacturing companies move towards manufacturing their own wafers (as per Finisar and its proposed take over) then the OUTSOURCED wafer market could shrink even if the total market grows (ok it is complicated since if the total market grows very fast then the outsoruced market could still grow but just not as fast as vertically integrated production). | jamesrowe
27/11/2018 14:39 | Don't be ignorant. There's a huge difference between mere rumours of causing cancer (mobile phones have always been 'blamed' without evidence) and the actuality of hundreds of birds dropping dead in the 5g test zone. Wildlife is going extinct far too quickly without adding any additional human causation factors. | tonsil
27/11/2018 14:20 | What of the trump 10% tariffs on I phones? I think its why apple went for Finisair. Does it not put value on the chinese trying to aquire IQE | thecrunk
27/11/2018 14:12 | CHEEK Quite right. Thank you. Wrong use of the word and I have changed. | aphrodites
27/11/2018 14:07 | There is some truth in that BUT what it has presented us with is an opportunity to increase holdings and for anyone with even a mid term horizon this will be noted in a few years as a bit of a gift. | tomduck
27/11/2018 13:55 | What annoys more than anything is the fact that we can be a truly epic company. We have fantastic products, some with 90% share of the market! What is missing? If IQE was in California, it would be worths billions by now. With all the fantastic assets we have, we lack an aggressive American style management team to take us to the next level. May be this is what shorters saw and I/we missed. I am no expert on management at this level, but I find it amazing how the bod miss-handled even the recent episode of a dip in share price AIMHO. | rostam60
27/11/2018 13:32 | People are so short term, what happened to long term investing? Just look at Warren Buffet if you want a good reason not to think just “today” and overthink things...it’s where the serious wealth is made | tomduck
27/11/2018 13:23 | Irrevocable?????? Steady on old chap - I hardly think a drop in share price is now irrevocable! It's already climbing back up. | cheek212
27/11/2018 13:17 | mhassanriaz None of us want a takeover at this stage. But the immeasurable damage to the share price, caused mainly by the "shorters", has laid IQE well open to a predator making an unwelcomed bid for the company. The Board has only themselves to blame for getting us in this position and they will find it difficult to defend such an approach. All the institutions which put money up at 140p must be well and truly p---ed off. Any bid around 160p might well see them pull the plug. What would be interesting then, is to see what sort of defence the Board puts up. That is of course, if it puts up one! If it does and it losses, we will all be asking why it did not keep shareholders better informed before the bid. The recent positive move in the share price indicates something is going on. I would not be at all surprised to see the Board announce they have received an approach. Remember, the Stock Exchange rules require them to announce immediately any sort of approach. | aphrodites
27/11/2018 13:07 | I agree but if two of the large shareholders come together it may be out of our hands. | boboty
27/11/2018 12:50 | I am not keen on take over and in my opinion take over bid at this stage will be rejected. We have the capacity and intellect to deliver provided there is demand and advancements. Workout what we can deliver at full manageable capacity vs the global future demand and then see what topline numbers you get and tell me if 150p sounds cheap as chips or not. Will be happy to see us hitting 300-400p on our own and then talk about a take over. | mhassanriaz
27/11/2018 11:23 | Shorts closing must be behind the climb, 1% is around 6 mill shares. Also expecting a trading update before xmas (4 weeks). Although iPhone X keeps getting mentioned, I'm sure facial recognition technology will expand to other areas. Future/other phones to use it, when you get in your car it will start for the right person, or when you approach your front door it will unlock ...etc … and this is not the only technology IQE are involved with, so I will be sticking with them after topping up at 63p and hoping the momentum is now up and back over £1 by the new year. | hannath
27/11/2018 11:03 | It is nice and reassuring to see the share price moving up. I am hoping for much more than a 150 take over. IQE is worth a lot more in the longer term. I remember PAYS was taken over very cheaply! I'd like to think that the recent move is very much to do with shorters closing their positions. I really hope they get into a bit of panic and push the share price further up. That would be a scene to watch on level 2. | rostam60
27/11/2018 10:37 | Have Apple reinstated their order then? | wendybatt1
27/11/2018 10:34 | Agreed Richard 🤜 | tomduck
27/11/2018 10:31 | Short hills looking steeper. 5g ,Apple X back in production. Lidar and electric cars... Bring more to the Table. | mhassanriaz
27/11/2018 10:30 | Shorts should have closed sub 70p while they could | thecrunk |
