grabster, I don't disagree with that but why don't we leave the froth, uninformed comment and general misunderstanding to those analysts and keep it off this thread. :-)

someuwin, if it says VCSEL it's a VCSEL. If it says IR illuminator, then it's likely not a VCSEL based system. It still could be but given how everyone is shouting from the rooftops about their frickin' lasers, it seems odd for Qualcomm not to be. :-)

But the question is, could the illuminator actually be a VCSEL? Some media stories talk about IR depth sensing, others talk about using VCSELs for depth sensing; but could the two be different ways of describing the same technique?

Sheep Herder -- I don't disagree with any of the facts you state; you and I both know that Apple's phone launch date doesn't directly alter production plans, and the early sales number matters very little within the overall mix of IQE's workload.

But market sentiment towards a stock - and awareness of the company among potential investors - IS coloured by headlines that journalists - including the poorly informed ones - excitedly home in on. Some of that headline related sentiment of course is merely froth, with no ongoing usefulness. But some of it prompts additional interest in the company.

The i-Phone 8 launch and the hype around it does generate headlines. Anything which appears to associate IQE's name with that of the mighty Apple Inc. - no matter how indirect the connection - does enhance sentiment towards IQE.

Some guesswork from PCmag tonight:

When Is the New iPhone Coming Out?
For the past several years, Apple has thrown an event on the first or second Tuesday or Wednesday in September. The company isn't likely to make people travel on Labor Day, a national holiday. That makes the most likely launch dates September 6 or September 12. If it follows tradition, the phone would then go on sale on the Friday of the following week—that's September 15 or September 22.

Hi Davehulb: I have no idea about "level 2" (I think that might be a pop band - thats all I know about that )

What I meant about close was I bought at £1.24 in MORNING and now it CLOSED at £1.265 so the price is going up from about 9:30am onwards - sort of thing. Hoping that is a good sign for next week but I'm not that bothered - you buy IQE because you like the story for the NEXT 12 MONTHS.

I mean scared people would probably sell friday afternoon but since no end sell off, one assumes we're all reasonably confident.

The beginning of the month?

I've seen many guesses as to the exact date - some of which are later in September. How reliable is this indication of an early date? IQE results are on September 5th. The article is time-stamped 12:13pm today.
If the phone launch is in those first five days, that makes a huge difference to what IQE can say in their presentation.

From that article I liked this part:

Indeed, sales and profits have multiplied over the past five years as customers have demanded more from IQE. City analysts are expecting the company to report sales of £143m for 2017, up 63% since 2012. Over the same period, pre-tax profit has rocketed 270%.

And it looks like the growth story is only just getting started.

Fruit, I'm sure you've sold out of some dogs at the right time too. Or sold out of good stocks then put the money into other good ones. Noone knows what the hell's going to happen. Whenever you've sold a good stock too early, someone else has bought your stocks too late. As long as you've made money you've done better than me so far!
