IQE share price never rallied on any possibility of USA grant so don’t see why that would effect share price downwards, and besides for various reasons I don’t think IQE is in line for the $305m that was being bandied about anyway. |
Seems like Trump may restrict Chip Act grants according to FT. Probably reason for current weakness. |
Certainly no sign of a share price recovery from these lows or much of a demand for IQE shares. Will take a while to restore confidence imo |
technowiz1 - who knows. But history suggests you’re being optimistic there. |
For Xmas I am thinking we are looking around 13.5p, once prelim H2/full year results indications are given early 2025 I think it will have an opportunity to jump up back up to 19p-20p, after that we need some good news either on the TW IPO or some kind of EPI partnership for GaN or something similar. |
Relatively recent news on UltraRam. Hopefully if this progresses to full manufacture it doesn’t stay in IQE Taiwan.
Reminder of IQE partnership |
LTS - sure. But it does say the funding would be “over several years”, which could even mean decades in practice.
IQE has already secured local State grants, though these are contingent on Chips Act funding being awarded. As well as on hitting various performance-related milestones (not something IQE’s exactly excelled in to date).
My guess is that IF this ever comes to anything, IQE will largely fund its share by selling off ever more of the (Taiwanese) family silver. Which might actually be the right approach, in light of the current noise China’s giving off. |
“The company plans to create 109 jobs and invest $309 million over several years in the expansion, partially funded by federal dollars through the CHIPS Act.”
Partially? Seeing as IQE has only enough funds to operate its current activities I think it’s relying 99.9% on a huge grant which as we know hasn’t been confirmed.
I would love it to be true though but even then it’s reliant - as all of these grants are - on large commitments from IQE financially and from their end customers. |
Bit more detail about Iqe expansion in Greensboro,North Carolina 6/12/24 |
Hutchmeister - I've just checked the US PACER site and the lawyers have been working around 'scheduling conflicts' (since beginning of August) in order to agree a future date for Oral Arguments. Court has provided a session calendar to May 2025 - so don't expect any news for a while. |
More like 'Great Expectations' |
Anyone got any idea where the Tower lawsuit case is, there's been no update for absolutely ages....? |
Just to show some balance 8p. As everyone else will go high! Weak eletric market is a worry. Especially with that firm planning the new car battery plant. (Will that still happen?) Hopefully IQE consolidate production elsewhere too. Sure they closed one site but the rest are barely at capacity. Not sure why they need so many UK sites.
Really doubt GF will bid for IQE. If they do it would be a 20-30% premium on share price. They would gut IQE and likely most of the staff too. The first to go would be the highly paid staff. CFO/accountants and execs. Should save over 1-2m.
After all the supposed cost savings they have made over last 1-2 years they have gone from 685 staff to 670 staff. I get the feeling this number needs to be slashed by about a 1/3rd unless revenue increase. |
tomduck - technically, if GF bought IQE before then, they'd be delisted so the price would be zero.
But at least long-suffering shareholders would finally have some money in the bank. Albeit in many cases less than they'd started with way back when. |
I'll play the forever optimist and predict they sell Taiwan for a decent (but below market) multiple and they can work out how to manufacture at a profit going forwards - 26p |
If GF have bid for us then 30p if not then 19p.
So 19p |
10p. Erring on the side of caution, given what happened last time.
More likely though, part of Global Foundries by then. |
I’ll throw my hat into the ring, 20p |
LTS yes, it’s now a given Micro LED as a mass adoption is multiple years away, will be niche all of this decade imo.
Solid consolidation of the IQE share price, if we can get to 14p by Christmas I will be happy.
I won’t bother re posting all our end of year predictions, let’s agree they are now void, but instead propose a prediction for June 30th 2025.
I will go first… 24p |
Another article that shows mass adoption of Micro LEDs is one for the next decade. Hopefully IQE is still a UK listed company by then and can prosper. |
