04/2/2023 11:16 | Headlam (HEAD) - that looks ripe for a takeout to me. But sometimes it just never happens. | essentialinvestor
04/2/2023 11:12 | Essential - no doubt you're right. So what would be the equivalent catalyst? Thanks for your kind words re SCS; but more doggedness than genius, I assure you. Are you in here, btw - or have further thoughts about it? | brucie5
04/2/2023 11:08 | Brucie, not the type of deal PE would usually look at, or if so, that would be at the specialist end. Particularly so post ZIRP. Congrats on ScS btw, very nicely done. | essentialinvestor
04/2/2023 11:02 | Bamboo, there must eventually, sooner of later, be some 'outer' that drives the price up to reflect value. If PE can buy the whole lot, hire back the same management to dispose as best they can with the most progressed 10-20 shares, and snaffle the cash, why would they not? That's not what I hope; but something has to surely give, to incentivise current management to take shareholders' interests seriously. I do not currently hold. | brucie5
04/2/2023 10:09 | Hambro Perks could get a 56% controlling interest in Istesso by buying IPGroup. Currently £683m You get over £200m cash for that, 10% of ONT [£200m], plus a load of other stuff! They'd only need to gear up 2x! Cheers! | bamboo2
03/2/2023 13:16 | Applies to the entire country given what faces us in the next 5-10 years. “It’s not success that drives the cohesion of a team, it’s facing a challenge together and having a shared commitment to solving that challenge that really builds the relationships. Once you see how a person faces difficulty you can understand them much better – that understanding builds trust and a sense that you’re in it together. That then drives success.” | p1nkfish
03/2/2023 12:26 | Istesso CEO Lisa Patel was recently featured on Tom Froggatt’s Careers in Discovery podcast, a window into the world of Pharma and Biotech. Lisa opened up about her background, her motivations and her passion for the world of immunometabolism, as well as the importance of working as a team. “It’s not success that drives the cohesion of a team, it’s facing a challenge together and having a shared commitment to solving that challenge that really builds the relationships. Once you see how a person faces difficulty you can understand them much better – that understanding builds trust and a sense that you’re in it together. That then drives success.” | bamboo2
03/2/2023 08:00 | Placing for ITX approx £10.5m The Company expects to report revenues for the full year to 31 December 2022 ahead of market expectations at US$5.6 million, representing 115% growth when compared to revenues of US$2.6 million in the year to 31 December 2021. | bamboo2
02/2/2023 10:52 | That this is the floor, I have no doubt. And a huge war chest of cash and discount to NAV gives IPO an almost copper bottom. Plus, it operates in the world of ground breaking tech. But how on earth to value the upside when there seems no clear path to reward shareholders, or prevent bod from treating like a lifestyle vehicle. Surely, when a folio company successfully gets its IPO or bought out, there should be immediate return to shareholders of part of the profit. Or else a much more attractive progressive dividend offering. I've followed this for years, and it's such a complex of holdings it's quite difficult to get one's head round without a lot of time invested. But I do take notice of the chart, which does periodically turn up and as well as down! Over last 20 years it's had two major up cycles, with more or less V shaped declines and recoveries, giving multiple recoveries of 5 and 2 times the low, respectively. The current low seems like an approximate repeat of the 2020 low, which I assume is to do with the general decline in Covid and other tech stocks. I anyone here able to plot a way forward for this story? | brucie5
31/1/2023 08:10 | TRX Tissue Regenix "Trading in 2022 has been robust, continuing the strong performance of 2021. Total sales revenue is expected to increase by 24.0% to $24.5m (2021: $19.7m) (up 25.6% to $24.8m at constant currency)." Chart shows a consolidation zone. Anticipating an upbreak. | bamboo2
30/1/2023 12:14 | bbanker - Valu of unlisted companies very much (imo) is subjective and partially dependent on timing - Look at the values Woodford put on his unlisted coys and then what they went for in the fire sale. Not saying that this is the case here but to get realistic view I suggest need to spend a LOT of time doing deep DD on the portfolio. | pugugly
30/1/2023 09:40 | The fact thAt exploration has been terminated does not, in my view, cause concern. Clearly Istesso is a company of interest which forms a valuable part of the IP portfolio. Hopefully the next report from the group will provide a positive valuation of the groups portfolio which is currently valued well in excess of twice the market value. Definitely one to hold. | bbanker
30/1/2023 07:42 | FOR RELEASE ON 30 January 2023 IP Group plc - Statement re press speculation IP Group plc (LSE: IPO) ("IP Group" or "the Group"), which develops world-changing science and technology businesses, notes the press speculation regarding portfolio company Istesso Ltd. The Group is aware of exploratory discussions around a potential business combination which have now been terminated. | bamboo2
30/1/2023 07:13 | Discussions terminated. Istesso independent. | p1nkfish
30/1/2023 02:31 | One hell of a long way to transport it. I wish them well. Ammonia and fertiliser make sense, H2 from the other side of the planet? Better to take the finished tech to North Africa. Any decent sized spat with China, especially if they get Russian sub tech to copy, and Australia is a large remote island with very dangerous sea lanes. Not good until there is a known top dog to police the seas. US will be busy elsewhere if that happens. | p1nkfish
30/1/2023 00:27 | Australia and Germany strengthen hydrogen partnership [$8.98 million to Hysata] 27 January 2023 Today, Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen met with German Minister for Education and Research Bettina Stark-Watzinger in Berlin to announce four new joint projects under the German-Australia Hydrogen Innovation and Technology Incubator (HyGATE). HyGATE was committed to under the Australia-Germany Hydrogen Accord signed in June 2021 and strengthens collaboration with German partners to reduce the cost of renewable hydrogen production and supports technology innovation in the industry. Funding of up to AUD$50 million from Australia and up to €50million from Germany for HyGATE will be invested in new projects under HyGATE. Australia is providing the following funding for four projects: $20.74 million to Edify Energy Ptd Ltd. to develop, construct and operate the Edify Green Hydrogen Project in partnership with Siemens to contribute to the Australia–Germ $19.48 million to Vast Solar to develop a methanol production plant using heat from concentrated solar thermal energy, including a 10 MW electrolyser producing green hydrogen in Port Augusta, South Australia. $8.98 million to Hysata Pty Ltd. to develop a new ‘capillary-fed $800,000 to ATCO Australia Pty Ltd. for a feasibility study into deploying an electrolyser and ammonia facility in the Illawarra to make advancements in hydrogen technologies and storage in the Illawarra region, New South Wales Minister Bowen and Minister Stark-Watzinger also released a joint summary report on Australia – Germany supply chain feasibility study, which outlines the steps needed to establish a supply chain for renewable hydrogen between our countries. The Minister said this collaboration with Germany will help grow Australia’s hydrogen export market and support our vision of becoming a renewable energy superpower. | bamboo2
29/1/2023 23:46 | Thanks bb2. Still need to see IPO extract shareholder value no matter whatever else. A commercial gene missing in this bunch. I dont blame the market for this poor performance. My fault for not selling and buying back and management for multiple missed opportunities to extract better value for shareholders. Very frustrating. Love the deep tech - that's the problem too. | p1nkfish
29/1/2023 23:36 | p1nk, Hambro Perks are likely to gear up any purchase, therefore we could be looking at multiples of £150m They have history with IPGroup [more post Woodford fallout!], having bought a number of crossholdings via Invesco's discounted [60%off!] sale of 17 unlisted's in early 2021. eg Nexeon [Batteries], FLF, and Akamis [formerly PsiOxus Therapeutics (Tumor-Specific Immuno-Gene Therapy)]. Hambro are under pressure to do a deal, to avoid a deadline of 15 months since inception. | bamboo2
29/1/2023 22:45 | You don't have to guess with IPO. It's the MACD positive cross on the monthly with positive coppock for buy = high probability of increasing price, sell on negative monthly MACD crosses. Just remember to sell though otherwise its down for long periods with opportunity cost. Sad that's the case and indicates its wider market and money flow driven mainly = little management influence. Management could be swapped out, wouldn't make much difference imho. | p1nkfish
29/1/2023 22:44 | Pug, link to CR post. ==================== I use a combination of charting and fundamentals to time trades. I got a buy signal here late last week. The macro situation also suggesting lows are in, as recession looks shallow, inflation and interest rates to moderate. From the IPGroup p/f, I have also bought ITX, TRX, and IUG as I think IPGroup will be up for some cash if buyers start sniffing around. Note these firms are separate from Kiko! [see earlier post]. | bamboo2
29/1/2023 22:19 | bamboo2. Cannot see a CR post of Jan 15 - but agree with the sentiment. However applying momentum theory if share price is on a trend it will often keep on moving (up or down) in the same direction until it reverses - Timing is the key (particularly with AIM and tech stocks) Examples AGL & ITX in UK and most of the FANGS in US. The wise or lucky person guesses when to get on and when to jump off. | pugugly
29/1/2023 22:02 | Pug, CR posted about this idea only a few weeks ago. "It amuses me that so many people think a stock on a low is always high risk while happily buying stocks on highs where likely all the good news is priced in" [Jan 15] | bamboo2
29/1/2023 21:52 | Pug - yes. A nice comfortable boys club. Lovely people no doubt, f'in useless as far as shareholder returns is concerned. Results over these years speak for themselves. Time to change. | p1nkfish
29/1/2023 21:49 | Hambro perks, mkt cap about £153.9M. Istesso unlikely to be the only holding once portfolio is built out so questions will be how much of Istesso will they take for how much and what will IP Group continue to hold. Let's hope, for once, IP Group management don't sell shareholders short. The share price vs launch price many years ago says it all. Time to get it right. | p1nkfish |
