alfie,

You are talking to a top boy, so behave.

I know how much has been shorted here, and I know what has been dumped by pi's.

Netley, you are completely wrong. You are getting confused with spread betting.Spread betting is a muggs game in which over 90% of pi's loose money. When a large institution takes a short position, they borrow stock from a broker and sell it into the market over a period of time.Fool.

I wonder if the US opening will bring out more buyers? As perhaps in the UK, maybe those sitting on the sidelines waiting for the turn etc, and IOF being a US-based company? Well I really don't mind one way or the other. Maybe Ennismore will need a little more time to close their short? The total volume so far today seems to be far lower than what they need to close this: and there's no hurry, is there? There must be a Warren Buffett saying somewhere which covers our little scenario today? Also, here's wishing you a very Happy Birthday, worraps!!

worraps,

I'll be a little kinder than I was to wardy :)

Just because I like to think I'm a gentleman.

There is a reason why people short, but they do not drive the share price down... that comes from the people around you. The shorts simply take a bet that they (you) will sell.

Worraps,
Understood. The whole point of the deramping is to maximise profit positions or help a 'client' get in or out of a position cheaper. Works especially well were a company has a lot of PIs. That's why I kept posting these last few weeks.

I get into my stride when blood on the streets, what an opportunity we had.

worraps, you are only stating what I am sure many feel.. and don't worry about the rdt brigade. I don't read them and most of the time they are wasters with nothing better to do.

Yes, the tea and toast were a help, although I nearly choked several times along the way.

Yes, a long way to go.........as I said earlier, let's hope this is just the start. And a very nice start it is too, for my birthday weekend.

che7win,

Well, one of my problems was I too kept buying more and more smallish tranches, all the way down. Every time I thought it couldn't go any lower, it did. Which is why I found it so scary and dispiriting. The word 'patience' didn't really help soothe my nerves, as my confidence was shattered over all the hiccups as Bobsworth recently outlined and reminded.

It will probably take quite a few days like this before my confidence is fully restored. It's one of the reasons that I dislike the concept of shorting, as it plays on, and takes advantage of, any weak situation, and makes the reaction to short term problems so much worse, and in my view causes market havoc unnecessarily. But, I'd better stop there before I stir up another can of worms, and the 'red thumbs down' brigade have a field day!

Plenty still on the side lines, those who sold out now have to get back on board, they will have been waiting for a turn.

worraps,
that's why I said 'patience' is needed.

The shorters with their one liners just made it easier for the astute to load up and these crazy prices.

I reckon most of those shorters were loading up at the bottom, that's the game they play.

Just in case anyone else is equally thick realised that the Ipad app gives better data than the free service on here. Eg (subject to warning notices from ADVFN) monitor switched on and bid/ask updated apparently real time.
