superg1: many thanks for these (and your other) posts: they are even more gripping than a Paul Adam thriller: that is, "a thumping good read" - with the added advantage that they are true (!).

Algorta next...... just joking.

A similar story of high costs and claims of big things, that haven't happened, with capex and opex rocketing.

If anyone is interested in a charting package that comes with about 50 one or two minute instructional videos (from '1st steps' to 'basic tools' to 'adding indicators') which would give anyone who is unfamiliar with such products an excellent insight; then have a look at ProRealTime.

You will have to register and provide an email address to get up and running but for that you'll get end of day charts in as much detail as you care to add and all at no cost for all major world markets and indices.

You can, if you wish, subscribe to real time charting (about £50 a month) and also trade directly from your screen. If you want to trade you'll need to open a trading account - that gets you all-sorts of reductions on your monthly charge to a point where it's possible to get the whole package for free. You can also, at a charge, 'bolt on' other major indices and go real time there too if you so wish. There's also a 20% and 40% loyalty discount on the software after one and two years.

Before anyone asks how much they are paying me - they're not.

And before anyone asks 'would you use it?' - I now do. But to redress the balance you can also check out:

where you'll find they came last in a survey of twenty. But this was mostly because the target market was American and Canadian where the trading charges from others was often considerably less. BUT three quarters of these would not get you real time LSE and so would be no use to the average UK investor.

I am not prepared to get into arguments re the merits of TA so if this doesn't interest please don't have a go at the post and in any event, as usual, DYOR. If I get a chance I'll put some screenshots on the Iofina TA thread and make any future comments there. I'll also paste a version of this there too. IMHO it has a lot going for it on many levels.

Orslega,
They are working on $10 margins, we are working on $30 margins (roughly).

So a $3 fall in iodine prices would cut their profits by a third, for us it would mean a 10% fall in profits.

The growth characteristics and costs don't compare between the two companies.

Sirocco

Another director has resigned.

Steve Jackson the president went earlier this year, now John Craig has left.

Rats? sinking ship ??? maybe not, but that's the way I think that mine will go

EDIT

Talking about Sirocco, I mentioned their claims and intent to get to 1500mt, that claim goes back much further than I thought, I was over-looking the name change from Atacama minerals.

If you want to see failure to hit targets, I will get the info and post.
We all know Sirocco have been hitting problems have made big claims of plans to increase production.

That's not for the last 2 or 3 years. It's for the last 10 to 12 years.

In fact it looks like they had another mine way back then and overall are now producing less.

Concentrating on the current mine, they were doing 700mt moving to 900mt 10 years ago, with big ideas to expand.

Last year, in all that 10 years they had crept up 300-500mt depending on which earlier figure you take.

13.5 years ago (that's not a typo) March 2000

The Aguas Blancas project will be developed in three phases,
commencing with a heap leach iodine operation. Upon completion of
financing, the schedule for mine construction is 11 months.
Initial production will be approximately 1200 tonnes of iodine per
year. Capital costs for Phase One construction are estimated at
US$25 million.

Now that puts it into perspective on how fast the Iofina growth is in the iodine industry.

Sirocco forecast 1200mt from that mine by February 2001, that actually achieved that 12 years later. BUT have a problem with their ALP.

Ramu

Most of the PIs I have met are all centred around having a chuckle and trying to wind each other up, from Cheltenham, t'up north.

However the closer you get to the heart of the financial action, wind ups are not that welcome, as it backfires somewhat, as they buy/sell first then ask questions later. For that sector even when you are deadly serious, they think it must be BS and it's often the best approach to take. Trust doesn't seem to be in the vocabulary of many in the city and rightly so from the examples of heard about.

Take your last post, do you think anyone will take you seriously.

'Weekend will be good' and out buying, teenage daughter a dress, don't go together.

It's funny how 'yeah whatever' is no longer the case, on such serious, stressful, world caving in, matters. BEST OF LUCK.

Hey SG,

Excellent post and it was only TWO sentences!

Personally, I think and feel the worst is behind us and IOF will come good soon. There's no need for bullish statements - no need to tempt fate etc.

Maybe I should be in person for the next meeting and once I see Lib, one may understand his posts better - wry humour, sarcasm, warts and all.....

Weekend will be good, a bit poorer after tomorrow - need to buy a dress for my teenage daughter's Xmas party!

The bears try to squeeze the life out of any slight drop, so no problem with a bull enjoying some light humour. imo

I didn't see any mention of claims they will be smashed, bloodbath, will enjoy their losses etc.

Well Lib, I now have you down as a 'contrarian humorist' - a bit like Noujay this morning, but you've a long way to go before you'll be able to compete in the same league as Shonny.

Hey Lib, it is presumptuous of you to know what readers will get or don't. Wry humour is the last thing we long term and a quite a few recent underwater investors need. Let's not get carried away...

We've been there before and most of us have burnt our fingers, not to mention a few palms and hands on the way. All I'm trying to say is our posts should be measured, justified and credible. Output/build confirmation is what we battered investors need, not wry humour!

I'm not getting down to anyone's level ramu, just a little wry humour that would get lost in the explanation. If you don't get it, you don't get it :-) (and you don't get it!)

Lib, why do you and a few others get down to Shonny's level? The share price is climbing, sit back, enjoy the rise and when you SELL and realise the profits, then shoot your mouth.

We, long timers have seen this type of rises only for the share price to fall back even more. No point counting your chickens etc. until we receive confirmation that IO3 is fully commissioned and there has been significant progress on IO4-6.

To me, under the radar means we are delivering and not shouting - the rns of 1/8/12 is exactly the opposite, not to mention the numerous nudges, winks and Pings. Oh dear, I doubt LB is ever going to live down the Ping statement for years....

Guys, all we need is confirmation of output/build figures for IO1-6, everything else (helium, water, oil etc. etc.) is icing on the cake.

Hopefully, this recent rise will be sustained and we'll see £2 before year end. If not, good old Netley & Shonny will be holding the Champions Cup!

No doubt there'll be numerous rambling replies to my post and at least half a dozen down ticks!

Interesting times, added a few on the cheap this week.
News due at any minute on one or more fronts. I feel we will have an end of year rally on the markets which will also help sentiment. What should I buy the wife for Christmas, I know some more IOF shares!
