01/8/2013 08:00 | level2 looks grim :-( | malachey
01/8/2013 07:48 | The most important thing (for me) is official confirmation that product will expand exponentially rather than simply be a factor of the increase in number of plants would suggest. (If I've explained that properly - I know what I mean). They have also made very clear that water is happening. Best wishes - Mike | spike_1
01/8/2013 07:47 | A steady but positive update. Progress obviously slower than I think most hoped for, but I'm sure people are starting to come to terms with that now. I think there will be a big difference in the end of years 'exit rate' and 'potential exit rate', as it looks like the IO's could take some time to get up to full speed, which I think most people expected. Steady as she goes. | diggulden
01/8/2013 07:44 | Some slight delays, who can't live with 4 weeks here and there? However they are still on track to get to 6 sites this year. Clearly, as the company collect data and tweak their plan, they have during this process found much higher ppm sites with easier ways to extract the iodine; means less plant build and potential clogging up of resources. I see a clearly defined, utterly achievable plan here with an eye on the exit rate at the end of 2014 of 5000mt plus easy. Like the work going on with the water too. Excellent RNS. | skylite
01/8/2013 07:32 | Largely positive, they are doing what they said they would do. IO2 still struggling to get to max flow rate, but increasing production none the less. | 1madmarky
01/8/2013 07:25 | One very busy Iofina! | bobsworth
01/8/2013 07:15 | Rns there's a lot to take in & I'll leave it to the experts to make technical comment, but to me it seems a very reassuring update with excellent future prospects :-) | grahamhacker
01/8/2013 02:22 | Engelo: Trust you are well. Yes, I'm familiar with the use of prilling as a powder preparation technique when used as a component of ceramic press batches, in a similar manner to, say, spray drying. I've always assumed that where cake is to be used in its impure form it will be "au naturel" rather than processed further, and also that all prilled material will be based on the purer crystallised material. The latter will therefore all need to be funnelled through the prilling kit at IOC. On a tangent, I have no idea if there is ever likely to be a market for different physical forms of the lower purity material, or even whether the cake would lend itself to prilling. Like you, I hope I've got the right end of the stick! | chumbo
31/7/2013 23:13 | I think that the most important info that we have received is via the emails that some posters have kindly shared, and that is that everything is still on track; info by the way that they have already rns'd, and that is good enough for me. We probably won't get another update until there is something else to add, or some news about patent, water, or new CEO. No problem, that is if your shares are bought and paid for. I can understand the frustrations of some spread betters and those under water at the moment, but you have to look hard to find any company that comes near to IOF if things come together, even just the iodine side of the business. I am sure that some will say IF things come together, but then there is never an easy way to make money in shares, so one has to weigh up the pros and cons and make a judgement. I have made many mistakes in the past so I'm not preaching! | bobbyshilling
31/7/2013 22:37 | For those interested, see malachey's 3061 for a more detailed description of crystallisation and prilling. | engelo
31/7/2013 21:38 | chumbo (5976) there's a bit of confusion about forms of iodine, so hope I've got this right: India are not buying prill from us as we don't produce any at present. What comes out of an IOF plant is cake (not very pure) which is suitable for some uses (eg IOF Chem use it to make methyl iodide, the pure stuff works less well), and crystalline iodine (pure) from the towers. The mini iosorbs produce cake which needs to be shipped to I02 or other big plant for the cystallisation process. IOF are attempting to build a market for cake. Prilling simply changes the form of the crystalline iodine, not its purity. Prilling plant is being built in Kentucky (at IOF Chem), targeted for 2014. So sometime next year IOF can sell all 3 forms. | engelo
31/7/2013 20:33 | My friend John says there is no need to be nasty mr SHorty and mr Lucas, both bully, if price goes down buy more. | niardniarb
31/7/2013 18:49 | superg, on the main thread you mentioned that you thought that there was an AIM potash company and I'm not sure if that was just a throwaway comment or if you wanted someone to get back to you - so just in case it is the latter, I think you are probably thinking of SXX (Sirius Minerals) which is my second or third largest holding (after IOF). It's diving at the moment due to uncertainty about the status of the planning application with the National Park where relations seems to have become a bit sour and some suspect that a lot of big-boy politics are playing out. I guess the cracking of the potash cartel hasn't helped, although since SXX won't be in production (assuming it gets there) for another four years, it's not so relevant (and they are marketing polyhalite). Usually SXX goes up when IOF goes down and vice versa, so it's a bit of a bummer that both are dropping at the moment, but I retain my faith :-) | madchick

31/7/2013 17:13 | "I see no reason why the IOF share price should not follow a similar trajectory" Winner of Today's Most Stupid Comment. | n3tleylucas
31/7/2013 16:59 | Spike, I recall him saying they would probably have ordered one prill tower by year end but that it would definitiely not be in place. | naphar
31/7/2013 16:59 | With due deference to Scrutable, has anyone here looked at the 5 yr. chart for Asos? The trajectory of the share price between 2009 and the first third of 2012 bears an uncanny similarity to IOF's over the last 12 months. In our case the movement is condensed into a much shorter period. And see what has happened to the Asos share price since! As news begins to break here, I see no reason why the IOF share price should not follow a similar trajectory, only in a much shorter period. | freddievas
31/7/2013 16:56 | anyone any idea when iof will actually reveal its opex with some clarity as at the moment its not too keen to shout its cost advantage to all and sundry. | remp31
31/7/2013 16:55 | Re: pril tower, As I recollect - Jeff (at the shareholders presentation) said there would be two by year's end. Best wishes - Mike | spike_1
31/7/2013 16:53 | Testuser Good spot re. Zara - Filtered! | joeywald
31/7/2013 16:44 | For info ZaraSport615 has only ever posted twice, both negative comments on IOF. Presumably the usual suspects need a sock puppet because no-one else will talk to them. EDIT: Boggle - presumably it comes down to the capacity of the prill tower (which I need to look into). I'd expect IOF would sell prill in preference as the market is larger and the margins are higher. | testuser123
31/7/2013 16:41 | SG1 cheers. I just wasn't sure of the context regarding the figures. 1600 tons is more than they currently produce so i want sure how the numbers fitted together. So do they mean that once production is high enough, the first 800 tons go to IOC, the next 1600 tons are sold as raw iodine, any extra production would have to be prilled? I just want to make sure that i have understood the numbers correctly, that's all. | bogg1e |
