23/4/2015 14:28 | Pheonixs re 'are you saying that that in your opinion SQM will not have further problems?' No I think that's just the start of it, they want to clean up the BOD situation before the numbers hit re tax evasion and the like imo. It's only in the last week or two where the Chile authorities have raided SQM offices and made seizures in relation to accounts etc for the last 5 years. I'm sure they will be full of tax evasion and the like. SQM's initial refusal to comply is why the 3 potash guys resigned. To me it now looks like Potash will oversee it all, and once it's all sorted they will T/O SQM. The Potash T/O comments have been around for years. It was either going to be walk or T/O, and from the recent actions it's looks like T/O. Perhaps the arrival of Potash may encourage CORFO to allow the lithium leases to continue, as they are currently trying to rescind them (Supreme court). CORFO are a government dept. We sit here and look on, but in Chile, Ponce Lerou out, is massive news. | ![]() superg1

23/4/2015 09:53 | They don't Phoenix If you recall last year I was pointing out this chaos coming. The SQM share price crashed and here it is in the media now. I have noted the New York flag which is probably the ex hedge fund guy who checks in. I pointed out the pending Chile issues to him some time ago. He and clients were big SQM investors, they got out many moons ago I understand. I did tell shorters here to wait for around $31 then short it, the post is here somewhere. I also said short Sirocco long ago stating it would go bust. | ![]() superg1
23/4/2015 09:32 | superg, Some problems for SQM still remain: 4 of the new proposed board members are "allies of Ponce" and in that part of the world who knows what that will mean. Credibility has been lot for SQM which by all accounts has been corrupt to the core. The upside for IOF should be higher iodine prices so long as corruption is rooted out in SQM and they base sales on legitimately based costs. I wonder why the likes of Bloomberg have not picked up on all of this. | ![]() phoenixs
23/4/2015 08:25 | This line makes me laugh 'bought up stakes that made him a billionaire' NO, he was the son in law of Pinochet and was and the boss of the Gov office CORFO who controlled such matters. He gave himself government loans then bought gov assets on the cheap with his mates and didn't pay the loans back. 'bought up stakes' lol | ![]() superg1

23/4/2015 08:10 | And more news SQM this time. I've kept it short a cut and paste. Ponce Lerou gone. Chile's SQM, the world's biggest producer of key battery ingredient lithium, will get a new board on Friday minus the man who has led it for nearly three decades, as the scandal-plagued company moves to reassure investors about its corporate governance. SQM , also an important supplier of iodine and other chemicals, was privatized in the 1980s under then-dictator Augusto Pinochet. His son-in-law at the time, Julio Ponce, bought up stakes that made him a billionaire and chairman of the company. But shortly after an insider-trading probe last year that saw Ponce and others fined, the company has become mired in a fresh scandal over illicit campaign financing, largely of Pinochet's right-wing party the UDI. The scandal has convulsed the political and business elite in Chile and already claimed the scalp of Patricio Contesse, SQM's chief executive, who was fired last month for refusing to cooperate with authorities. Now it has unseated Ponce himself. | ![]() superg1 |
