i think i have that wrong. i think the offer document publication date is when the prospectus is sent to shareholders - aug/sep, see presentation page 31, indicative timeline . in which case would be 21 days after that. that would give a rival bidder some two months to act. can any takeover code experts verify this?

not sure. my guess is a rival bidder would have to show up before the first closing date, which doesn't appear to have been specified yet, but I think has to be at least 21 days from when the offer document is published. i guess that is August 21.

any expert on the UK takeover code out there ?

Dont count your chickens! I see Emerson have their Q3 results on Tuesday. Its going to be interesting to see if they have anything to say about this. Are they really going to let Schneider snap up Invensys on the cheap? Schneider will pick up a DCS and safety system installed base of £12 billion, so suddenly the competitive environment looks a lot more challenging!

There is a currency risk Lancasterbomber, but the Euro does however seem strong again the pound. In the meantime I go along with number 2 option, nothing to lose really

Trying to decide what to about with these shares there appear to be 3 options

1. Sell now at what is the offer price

2. Wait to see if there is a better offer

3. Accept the offer, however does anyone know if shares in the French company can be held in a an ISA? There is the possibility of course, that the value of the French companies share might increase in the meantime.

Are most people going with Option 2 at the moment?

wonder if the Sunday Times will be back with some new speculation this weekend? how about Honeywell? its shares are up 50% over the last 12 months and trading at record highs. it could use its shares as currency

Tom

I think Invensys share price has climbed above offer price because Schneider shares have increased in value since Tuesday. Tabled offer based on Schneider share price of 58 euros, now its nearing 62 euros.

I see they are calling it a £2.4 billion purchase, after taking account of the tax benefits

I agree. imo Schneider could easily double the value of the £2.8 billion purchase. key is the installed base of £12 billion

In all the flurry of RNS' has anyone been keeping track of the total % those banks/institutions hold formally announcing they are holding for Schneider? Whilst no one else has come forward with a bid (and they may not) it doesn't quite feel as though Schneider have delivered the coup de grace.
