If you take all the sentiment (national institution), xenophobia (owned by a foreigner) and national security concerns (he might read a postcard from your granny) out of the equation, then there is no reason why the Government should even be involved.

This takeover will be life-changing for the company and is desperately needed in my opinion.

The current management team are too weak to deal with the Unions and the Unions are too stupid to realise they have already killed the golden goose!

My only regret will be that when he turns the company's fortunes around HE will reap the massive financial rewards that I, as a shareholder, could have had if anyone had grown a pair and stood up to the CWU years ago.

The CWU is against it I believe, but we will have to wait and see. Mind you the CWU want it renationalised but I can't see that happening.
The only plans are to Renationalise the Railways that I know of but they are already except in name. There isn't much money in the Coffers for much tbh. which is why I think part of the reason the Tories have called an early election.

Results delayed due to Auditors being late but expected to be broadly inline.

Election puts a bit of Limbo on this as Parliament will be dissolved next Week and it will likely be passed over to a Labour Government.

"ranks 32nd in the Human Development Index" -indeed. I have some next door. They keep putting things out on top of their garage for the pidgeons. No obvious visible consideration for others, doesn't even occur to them, won't be long before we are over run by flying rats this year.

*I'd have thought 32nd in the 'index' was a bit high... but others may be justifiably further down.

Daniel Kretinsky is from the Czech Republic, works as a lawyer and enrepreneur and is worth in excess of $9bn.

He has reached a level of sophistication most people in the country cannot imagine and the Czech Republic is more advanced than the UK in many respects.

I have met many East Europeans as London is flooded with them. Thanks to Blair they already think Brits are lazy good for nothing scroungers and they themselves are the hardest workers on the Planet! Many of them are just plain greedy and do not have the work or the wages to compete in their own Countries which is quite ironic given they think they are the best.
This will just seal the ludicrous position that RM has been put in and I can imagine the laughter after at the Drinks party after the deal is done! Poland is already convinced they won the 2nd World War because a few Pilots joined the RAF.
Those stupid Brits, we now have their Royal Mail, a sacred 500 y.o Company conceived when Henry VIII was King. We are a laughing stock!

The Tories may allow the bid and hope the RM problem will just go away but we know it won't, although they won't be in power to see it.
It would be better to ring fence RM off, put in reforms that can make it viable again and then if all else fails renationalise it. This can't happen in Foreign hands so easily and they would have to pay a hefty price to get it back.
A right old mess than could have been avoided.

Kemi Badenoch I don't really think is up to the task on this, the Financial World can be far more brutal even than their Political one.

Unfortunately have to agree with the article although I want the bid too. DK is not bringing investment to the Company but merely buying it on the cheap. Sunak is only concerned about winning a few votes which is why they have not engaged with IDS hoping it will just go away until he loses the next election.
It is a complete farce and there is no way a Foreign owner will put up with all the Union nonsense and will run down the service if reforms are not made to make it profitable, exactly what the current management have been trying to do for the past 4 years. When it was floated I don't think anyone realised the extent Smart phones, the Internet and email has taken over from the Post which except for Parcels and legal Documents almost extinct. I have never had a Dental Appointment by Post even before Mobile Phones and the Internet was invented!

We may just have to accept that RM with it's Militant Union and our Non-Cooperative Government have made this Company an anachronistic Basket Case.
One minute they're saying how RM is the life blood of the UK and the next they're giving it away to a Czech for nothing with no idea what will happen in the future. One thing you can be sure GLS will be distanced asap.

Hunt says he Welcomes Foreign investment. Errrr, what exactly is Kretinsky investing and where? Well GLS operate outside the UK and RM has already had alot invested in new Machinery and work practices so what will he be investing?
Precisely FA and that is how stupid our Government is. GLS is trading as separate entity and will not even have an HQ in the UK and no jurisdiction whatsoever from our Government. Just how stupid are these people?
In fact they will get no Taxation at all from GLS and RM has made huge losses so won't pay anything for years. if they don't pull their weight the whole lot will be thrown back at the Government minus any Light Bulbs or anything not bolted down!

I was thinking along those lines too as they are run as separate entities. The Government have made RM a Basket case atm by being uncompromising, I hold them responsible for this.
It seems the Regulator is a Tool to break Companies. DK would have no qualms in abandoning it if it got into more trouble or the reforms are not good enough and there is very little they could do about it in the reality.
Mind you he'll pillage it first!

My preference would be for the board to sell GLS

Then hold shares in Royal Mail and force government changes in universal service. Then run it purely as a UK business. Then the unions are exposed
