ham......another reason why countries won't allow the lockdown to continue for much longer.

The Oil Barrons need to sell their product and there is nowhere to store the oil that isn't being used.
They can't turn the tap off !

Airlines being downgraded to Junk status

How can anyone advise buying airline shares currently ?

The world is going to swamped with debt for years

Bigger important to the country type Airlines with big fleets and big staff costs are IMO very likely to be partially nationalised along with several other sector FTSE 100 stocks.

The pain is only just begun

Loganair.
You will remember Virgin supposedly buying and saving jobs at Flybe . What happened is they took what they wanted , asked government for a bailout and when that didn’t happen sacked all staff. No sentiment for staff there.

Now he’s playing the same record , give us money or we’ll go under and people will lose jobs.

No Mr Branson

Fuel hedging details at IAG is hugely important if as you suggest 85% is hedged. I would have thought it would be a case of buying the hedged fuel or buying and paying for it but not taking delivery of it. If there wasn’t a minimum purchased/delivered then suppliers would be at a disadvantage.

I wonder if force majeure could be inacted?

Norwegian’s pilot and cabin crew companies in Sweden and Denmark declares bankruptcy.

Norwegian takes steps to get rid of employees in Sweden, Denmark, Spain, the UK, Finland and the USA. Norway, France and Italy are not affected.

In Norway, there are efficient furlough opportunities which means that the government pays for all salary related costs throughout the duration of the furlough period. Yet, there is not the equivalent coverage in Sweden or Denmark schemes.

Due to the extraordinary situation (force majeure), Norwegian has also notified OSM Aviation that it has cancelled the crew provision agreements with several of its jointly owned OSM Aviation subsidiaries. These companies have crew based in Spain, UK, Finland, Sweden and the US.

The above actions will affect 1,571 pilots and 3,134 cabin crew. About 700 pilots and 1,300 cabin crew based in Norway, France and Italy are not affected.

I don't how oil hedges work. IAG hedge 85% historically but if they have high legacy hedge prices, that doesn't matter if they not actually buying the oil, depends on the contract, is there any minimum amounts to be purchased in the contract?
I doubt it as oil was considered always going to be bought?
Any hedging done recently or especially today would be good for long term costs for airlines.
