Strange comment - why would you feel sorrow or am I missing something.I would say markets have knocked back. A very good week despite being shed loads down overall

Terrible week so far. IMHO this will sink back towards 150 v.soon. strong results couldn’t aid a recovery of any sort. Something seriously wrong.

I feel very sorry for LT holders especially the ones believing the £2 hype.

Agree - great buying or topping up opportunity. Recent Motley Fool articlehttps://www.fool.co.uk/2024/08/04/down-43-over-5-years-this-ftse-100-stock-could-skyrocket/Down 43% over 5 years, this FTSE 100 stock could skyrocketThis FTSE 100 stock is yet to return to its pre-pandemic levels. However, our writer believes this stock could reward investors in the coming years. The FTSE 100 is home to several companies that haven't truly recovered from a series of economic shocks, including the pandemic, Brexit, and Russia's invasion of Ukraine. One of those companies is airline operator IAG (LSE:IAG).The stock stumbled on Brexit worries, slumped during the pandemic, and has suffered from elevated aviation fuel prices following Russia's invasion. However, it's now a business that is moving in the right direction.Brokers say it's 'undervalued'IAG is one of the most undervalued companies on the FTSE 100 according to brokers and analysts covering the stock. In fact, the average share price target is approximately 39% above the current share price. At £1.65, the stock is some distance below the target of £2.22.It's interesting to note that even the lowest share price target is £1.71. That's a premium to the current share price, and a very good sign that the least bullish analysts still thinks fair value is upwards. The highest price target is £4.50. That's pretty much where the stock used to be before the pandemic, and it would represent 173% growth. In short, some analysts think this stock could skyrocket.

Great buying opportunity with strong results. However it may go lower into the 150’s first.

We are seeing the traditional drop after results as profits taken. Wont lie little more than I thought but do expect a bounce back later in the week. GLA

British Airways 'only airline with earnings momentum', suggests brokerPublished: 13:06 02 Aug 2024 BSTWritten by: Philip WhiterowAbout this contentViewInternational Consolidated Airlines Group SALSE:IAGInternational Consolidated Airlines Group SA - British Airways owner International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (LSE:IAG) is the only airline operator with forward earnings momentum, according to the analysts at Panmure Liberum.Second quarter numbers today were well ahead of consensus, it adds, in sharp contrast to its peers."The resumption of dividends highlights the strength of cash generation and the balance sheet."Management's outlook for the year remains positive and we raise ouralready above-consensus forecasts modestly."The broker said IAG is the only airline where it has raised forecasts in this results round, adding that the group's current rating "looks wholly inconsistent with its financial performance and outlook".But with an unchanged (and punchy) target price of 450p, said the broker.Shares rose 7% to 171.2p.https://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/companies/news/1053284/british-airways-only-airline-with-earnings-momentum-suggests-broker-1053284.html

The city reports were v positive which is an excellent sign for how large investors are influenced. Maybe tad lower than last year but still a very healthy profit which is the key for me. Remember we are now going into the best quarter traditionally so it's actually an excellent time to invest. GLA

The Times "BA's owners is flying high with dividend back on board"

Positive full page article.
Main takeaway for me
Cash €8.7 bn compared to €6.8 previous
Net debt €6.42bn compared to €9.25 previous
Margins fell to 8.9% from 9.3%
Pretax fell €16m
Also profits are falling in sister carriers
Iberian €10m less despite 10% more passengers
Vueling carried 6% more passengers but only €1m more profits
Air Lingus carried 2% more passengers but profits dived from €40m to €9m

Happy to see share price clime on Dividends but I don't see this result as a good reason to buy into IAG .

A shame really. Decent company. Not their fault for the crazy lockdowns etc. Take a generation to properly recover. Reckon if they spend 5-10 billion on buybacks over the next 5-10 years, the share price might well move forward a chunk. No matter what, I'll be holding here till retirement at least, but I'll never invest in airlines again! Super dooper high risk. Anyways. Back in another year so see if the share price has made any progress. Best of luck all.

They paid a fair bit off the debt.
They may have dangled a carrot with regards to the return of divi to attract investors (divi % can increase).
There income could also target a chunk of buyback (no for the board members) but to be written off.

See what develops.

Fingers crossed

I agree. IAG's debt target is 1x8 and gthey are currently at 1 x 1, so they are actually happy to see their debt higher !
Bizarre.
Having spent 150m on a failed Europa bid , I agree chief they should be concentrating on biuybacks and further debt reduction.

Share price gone nowhere in 3 years. Shows what a nightmare it is for the airlines (attracting investors). Even in good times. Small div and even smaller once taxed. Rather they use the cash to clear down debt or buy back the billions of extra shares they had to issue back in the end of the world days. PE is cheap so defo a case for a buyback. Might get to 200p if the markets continue to rally but fail to see how they can go much higher. Too many potential negatives for airlines now. Be better off going private. Target 3 squid by 2034.

Good results if not outstanding but this covid recovery stock still v nicely on track. M Stanley who is my preferred choice for forecasts still has over 215 and with the business now at full capacity plus new club suite roll out nearly complete its all looking v good. Feedback on the club suite is excellent and been fortunate to experience it few times. Really is a big improvement. The fleet looking more and more modern by the monty and recent B787-10 fab inside. Happy days ahead . GLA
