My very words here over the last few weeks

Furthermore, with the situation evolving at such a rapid pace, management does not believe it is in a position to provide an earnings outlook to the market at this time

2nd warning within two weeks

Air New Zealand withdraws earnings guidance due to coronavirus outbreak

On Friday the Air New Zealand Limited (ASX: AIZ) share price was out of form and tumbled to a multi-year low of $1.96.

Unfortunately for the airline operator’s shareholders, its shares look set to test new lows on Monday after the release of an update this morning.

What did Air New Zealand announce?

This morning Air New Zealand announced that it would be withdrawing its FY 2020 earnings guidance due to the increased uncertainty surrounding the duration and scale of the coronavirus outbreak.

This guidance was only reconfirmed two weeks ago, which goes to show just how things have escalated in such a short space of time.

According to the release, over the course of the last week, the airline has seen further softness in demand with a decline in bookings across its network. This has been blamed on the ongoing spread of the coronavirus to countries outside of China, which has driven a downward shift in demand.

And while Air New Zealand has taken numerous steps to mitigate the impact of reduced demand, the airline believes the financial impact is likely to be more significant than previously estimated.

Furthermore, with the situation evolving at such a rapid pace, management does not believe it is in a position to provide an earnings outlook to the market at this time.

About 23,000 tested, 270 confirmed in UK.
2 deaths.
About 1% of those tested.

But geometric progression is powerful, soon gets to hundreds of thousands, millions

They are testing more people worldwide they will find more.
About 100,000 cases worldwide.

Italy have tested more than anyone else so it has found more.
More deaths because of a very old population.

I look at it as just another flu.
Each flu virus is different from last years.
I suppose this virus is milder than flu, most people recover, symptom are mild and it does not appear to be dangerous for healthy people under the age of 60.
Not so with some flu viruses, they can kill all age groups.

The real difference between this and others is the panic. This has gone viral if you forgive the pun.
Everyone is an expert virologist who claim to know the subtle differences between this and bog standard flu.

Never heard so much hype, headline news etc, since the Brexit debate.
It will blow over, this time next year we will be worrying about something else.

This is a novel virus, no previous stats, no cure, no idea.
Everything is just reacting to the info we hear via the media.
Show me any stats that show less than 3% fatality rate over time?

The Region has a older demographic presence, hence the higher number, suggests you do some research

Those of you who thinks it's just another flu virus can continue believing.

Strange how flu doesn't cause mass city lockdowns

Officials in white space suits carrying out quarantine

Military not deployed for flu.

Very very strange. It's just a flu. Let's carry on smelling roses

So if only 3% of uk population get it that's 1,800,000, of which on current stats, 10% need ICU (180,000) and even if only 1% fatality rate that's as little as 18,000.
We do not have a draconian lockdown like China.
Look at the news not here.

never 5%.
The denominator must be understated.

Probably well below 1%.

Not everyone is tested and as more sensible experts are saying, many have it and the symptoms are mild. It goes when they are better, and they are not in the numbers.

Probably we are at the tipping point within 3-4 weeks when the number of people who have had it and recovered are greater than those with it.

$20 oil means recession.
ie supply exceeds demand. And the oil producers don't want to cut production during a recession as their income lowers even more.
At the end of the day I cannot amd fo not wamt to post this share price or the FTSE or the global markets into a recession, it will happen when it happens. Being aware of events is every thing.

Weekend FTSE at 6300 whatever you want to read into that! Getting back on the inverse trackers ASAP tommorow. Thinking this week I might ditch the leverage so I can leave it in longer without so much risk. Not sure yet if I'll add to IAG this week but I'll see how it goes.
